RENT: the movie

hey, i still haven't seen rent the movie yet, cuz the lady at the video store said it sucked, but she doesn't strike me as someone who'd like musicals. i wanna know if it's worth seeing. any suggestions?

These are the facts:

Yes, it did kind of suck, as a movie. It was a flop at the box office. It got bad reviews.

HOWEVER being a fan of RENT I enjoyed it. People who don't know what RENT is or don't like it won't appreciate the stellar Original Broadway cast (with the exception of Rosario Dawson and Tracie Thoms). There were some *ahem* tricky places in RENT where the stage-to-screen transition was awkward, but overall, I did love watching it. So, if you're a fan of RENT, I strongly suggest you watch it anyway. It's definitely not as good as the stage version, but a good substitute for when you only have $2 instead of $45.

Go see it. This summer at my house.

All's i will say is that Hollywood raped it. Mostly, that'll happen in a stage to film transfer. Although, i did thoroughly enjoy Chicago (to an extent)... maybe if Rob Marshall had directed the RENT film, it wouldnt've suck so much balls. Rolling Eyes

Think for yourself.

See, Rent is tricky. I really liked it, though there were some scene transitions and choices made that just really bothered me. One of my best guy friends, who really doesn't like the stage show, thought the movie was better. I took a friend of mine who knew nothing about Rent to see the movie and she loved it. And, as you can see, there are plenty people who thought it was horrible. So, I'd say take TVAW's advice and just make the call yourself. The worse that happens if you don't like it is that you've spent $4 on a rental.

See it...i liked it personally, and have seen it at least 15 times, and i still love it. But if you want the full effect of Johnathon Larson's contribution to the musical theater...see it on stage, no matter wat the cost. If you already have, then you are a good friend of mine (unless you didn't like it...then I you)

What?

And it's spelled Jonathan, by the way.

I've seen it spelled "Johnathon Larsen" in some press material, too. Don't these people learn?

It was ok but they miss out half the musical numbers and replace it with libretto. Some musical numbers arent as effective and i didnt like the way they did angels death in the film. The tango maureen is brilliant though

Rent Movie

I liked the movie but even though I haven't seen the play I think would have been better and I have the soundtrack so I noticed that some of the songs weren't in the movie.

I really liked it, got my DVD ordered for when its released in the UK. I've never managed to see it on stage though.

Never seen it on stage before, but I have the highlights of the OBC. When I saw the movie I thought it was amazing. It was a very well acted movie, the actors sang very well and the storyline was really good because you could relate to it even in the smallest way.

My advice for you would be though to rent the movie first. I heard mixed reviews and based on the subject matter of the movie I didn't want to buy a movie that would collect dust on my shelf. Turns out I loved it and I bought the movie. This works best if your not too sure on a movie Wink

Only when people are wrong.

I say you gotta see it and be the judge for yourself. I kinda liked it.

It coulda been a hell of a lot worse. That's what I gotta say.

Oh and I didn't like it that much.

It got mediocre reviews in the box office but RENT to me is the best movie in the world. It's what made me fall in love with it in the first place. I absolutely love that movie and even though I didn't see the the broadway play, it told such a great story and the characters were amazing, even the new ones. I loved Rosario Very Happy
