Yeah! And on the live performance of the Musicool modern musical today, William Baker and another guy involved with the new West End version of Rent were in the audience. Apperently its going to be showing at the Trafalgar Studios, but no one knows anything about dates yet.

I'm interested in how they are gonna do Rent UK style.
ModernBroadwayGeek21

Me too. It's gonna be really different. Hehe. Hope they don't delete any songs.

^ I don't think they would get rid of songs. Maybe changing dialogue/the storyline/few lyrics...
music is my life!!!

i think it's more effective if they just do another production that's not specific to the uk. i often find that american shows are much better than british shows done in britain, as long as it's not total cheese, which rent isn't so we'll all be ok! Cool

They actually did before. "We're Okay" wasn't in the show. And a few of the songs would probably change to fit in the "issues of today"... That's my thought.

I have to disagree, phantom of the opera, rocky horror picture show, Evita, jesus christ superstar, Aspects of Love, By Jeeves, Billy Elliot, We will Rock you, Joseph etc all amazing british shows. I have to agree that some of the casts after the originals havent been fantastic but that can be said for broadway as well and the effects arent always as grand but I think that gives it some realism to use your imagination a bit. This isnt to start off an arguement whether broadways better than the westend or vice versa im just highlighting both have pros and cons and people have their preferences
music is my life!!!

fair enough... continue

...wouldn't that be illegal to change lyrics or add lines?

Not if it's professional and they are granted permission.
It is, however, illegal to change lyrics and songs if you don't have specific permission. If this is going to be high scale, they will have the permission.
Gwen

Ah, okay. Thanks for clarifying. Cool

Question

The theatre only has 400 seats!

Well, RENT isn't/wasn't really a big hit here in the UK (SADLY) like in the USofA. Only a number of people (which I'm one of, though I'm not originally from England) are die-hard fans of RENT. 400 seats would be more than enough for a long run. Smile
