Rent auditions??My high school just did a production of Miss Saigon, and reps from MTI (Music Theatre International) came to see it, and they're using us as a pilot to do two shows never done at a highschool ever before!!!either Rent or Avenue Q!! anyways, i was wondering what a good song would be to sing for the part of Maureen in Rent any suggestions? |

Oh, God.
Neither of those shows should be done for a HS.......... good luck. You are DEFINITELY going to need it. |

I don't have anything in specific for you, but you would probably get a lot more responses if you posted this question in the Audition Song Thread in the Auditions Auditions Auditions forum.

i'm sort of hesitant as far as replying to this but here i go!
look at the character of maureen. then look at the people who are famous for playing her. then try to find matches in voice ranges and character types in the famous faces. for example. Idina Menzel was nominated for a tony in 1995 for her performance in the OBC of Rent. What other rolse has she played? Elphaba (BIG NO-NO at the moment!) Kate (Wild Party) - not very well known Summer of '42 - Dorothy AIDA - Amneris Hair - Sheila (there's more on www.wikipedia.orgwiki/Idina_Menzel) What characters out of these do you think are similar to Maureen? What are their signature songs? Go from there! Good luck! x x x |

That is some very good advice, right there. I should use it more often. |

I'll do that in the future. |

Hear hear. One of our local high school is a pilot school for it with a production next fall and word is that La Vie Boheme has been massacred to make it appropriate for a high school. The only plus is that the school has a fantastic director and is known for it's great shows. I guess we'll see come November. |

thats odd, cause the rights arent out for ither of those shows, sweety i have been auditioning for RENT in Ny for the last three years with one call back under my belt, and im telling you its not easy, JUST KNOW YOUR VOICE, than your audition song will never be wrong. I wish you luck in all you do, but i doubt a HS will get the rights for ither show.

And Miss Saigon is an easy show to do at a HS? If they did that one well enough for MTI to offer them rights, they probably can pull RENT off, the music isnt THAT hard. |

I agree, try to match the voice ranges of past maureen's and find out what they've played. You could do something of theirs.

Yeah, a school-edition of RENT was set out to five non-professional groups this year...

Limited rights have actually been out for -thinks- a year or so now. The first production of RENT: School Edition occured last May, I believe. |
