Relax its the upcoming auditions thread.Somtimes it is fun to see what other people are auditioing for. It is also fun to vent about what y ou are currently or going to be auditioing for.My upcoming auditions are for two theatre companies season's. Tomorrow: Unbeatable, Peter Pan Tour, 1776...(Still debating over what to sing for the tour...Hmmm...
Oh yeah...and I'm singing for a group that does performances in hospitals, etc. for the first time tomorrow at 4:45pm... LOL! I'm always busy! |
||||||
| Bagel |
Beauty and the Beast in 5 hours...eeeeeeek! And my first audition in 4 years, so you know, not nervous or anything. |
||||||
| LesWickedPhantom |
I've only just discovered the vast amount of local semi-pro/community theaters in and around my area... and I've missed the auditions for the summer season for all of them... and the usual groups I perform with don't have summer shows. so I'm a bit down right now. my last free summer, and now I have to get a real job. oh geez...
break legs to everyone else though! |
||||||

I had my audition for the murder mystery play "Rehearsal for Murder" at my high school last Thursday.
Callback list goes up this Thursday. Callback auditions are next Thursday. Cast list is the Thursday after that. I'm pretty confident. There are 9 guy roles, and 8 guys tried out. And out of those 8 guys, there were about 4 guys (including myself) who actually had any talent. Still, it sucks because the director is making us wait soooo long. |

| MaryMag |
Ack I didn't see that your Peter Pan audition was tomorrow. I won't have time to look at my nifty bundle of R&H stuff tonight. : ( Boo hoo. And I was excited to try help jazzy out for once! I'm sure you'll be brilliant! |

nothin on my horizon til SETC in september, where I'll get typed out for being equity.
Everything I was called back for this spring ended up going local or non-eq. |
||||||
| MaryMag |
I'm getting closer to feeling ready for SETC... not this September but probably next you'll be getting 1000 PMs from me for advice. You have been warned. |
||||||
| sunrae |
I just noticed that too!! |
||||||
| Chevstriss |
you are way ABOVE 85% of the people who show up at SETC. And I've never even met you. |
||||||
| MaryMag |
I could just be talking myself up. You see, I TOO have had earlobe surgery... just kidding. thank you for the compliment, though. but i'd like to have at least one or two professional credits on my resume before i go. i'm sure sopranos are a dime a dozen there. i want to make sure i'm competitive enough to make it worth my time. |
||||||
| Cake_in_Song |
Just "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" in a couple weeks. We don't have anything good to audition for in my lame-o home town.
| Sweeney Hyde |
I would kill to do Forum right now...it was on the ballot for our Community's season this year but Cinderella won...which is fine...don't get me wrong...but I adore Forum. |
||||||
| kozafluitmusique |
My next audition isn't, i think, until late August...it makes me sad.
If i wasn't moving, my next audition would prolly be "Seussical!" maybe for the summer theatre program that is performed at my high school. |
||||||
| shakalakababy |
Urinetown in June
coming up sooner then i realized
|
||||||
| Cake_in_Song |
Really? Everyone here is bummed that it was picked, because they think it's going to be boring. I'm stoked to do Sondheim, because I love him passionately, but I'm not stoked that it's probably going to be an all-female cast and not many good female roles. You should come up to Canada and audition! Lol. |
||||||
| Melindaisy |
Which is exactly why our group didn't pick the show.... we don't have nearly the amount of guys who can sing to fill the roles in "Forum" Auditions on my horizon are for "The Chalk Garden" in late July.... and possibly "Oliver" (again for me) in late summer. |
||||||
| Kaaatrina |
Ugh, thinking about it, I'm not auditioning for any musicals until August. Bummer. |
||||||
| BEaSTARandSINGlove |
Got a Kim in Bye Bye Birdie audition coming up in about 3 weeks.
That's it for now. |
||||||
| sunrae |
I'm asst. directing a youth production this summer.
Then I'll have auditions for "Singin in the Rain" in August. Then I'll have auditions for "Once on this Island" in December. Auditions (or possibly a choreographer position) for "School House Rock Live" next April. Yes, that's right. Only THREE auditions in the next YEAR. This is a sad little town. |
||||||
| pish123c |
DON'T do SHRL it is the corniest thing ever. Unless it is for an audience of youngsters, then it is somewhat fullfilling, but uggg. bad memories. |
||||||
| Maryssa |
I'm in the middle of callbacks for A Little Princess. I have one tonight.
Then I don't have any auditions until September. I'm trying out for my local youth theatre's season of short plays, and my school's elite singing group. So I probably won't be on MdN in July and August. |
||||||

Sound of Music next week Friday!!!
I'm very excited. And ready. I've decided this is my opinion on it: "I'm going to kick it's [this audition's] butt." |
||||||
| SuperKabob |
I have no auditions... But I am weekly checking the websites of all of the theatres up to 30 minutes away from here for notices.
| Brigantine |
Poooey Poo poo poo..... |
||||||
| Brigantine |
Cancel that.... One of the theaters will still be holding auditions for the last show in their season, Cinderella.
Question: this theater says they are a "professional" theater. But then in their "about us" page, say they are a 501 C3 non-profit organization. how can you be a non-profit Professional theater? If they are non-profit, wouldn't they have to call themselves a community theater? Maybe I just don't know how that works.... |
||||||
| DaddyDiesel |
One of my season audition is on next wednesday. It has a 30 minute dance asudition with it also. Darn. I know I will kick the singing auditions butt. But the dancing is going to be interesting. |
||||||
| Chevstriss |
almost all pro theatre outside of Bwy and Nat'l tours are non-profit. They survive on charitible grants from corporations, becuz they can't survive on ticket sales. |
||||||
| star2ballie |
Whenever my dad and I do something, or feel like we'll do something well, we say "I'm gonna kick it's ass!". It's a silly thing we've always done. But I do feel very prepared for this one. And preparation is the key to easing nerves, eh? You'll kick the ass of your audition, too, I bet. The dancing...eh, who gives? Kick it in the rear as well. On "kick it's ass": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AfU7IGXJhc SO funny. Oh my goodness. |
||||||
| disneybeauty |
My next auditions won't be until late July or August, and I'll be auditioning for Jekyll and Hyde, and Guys and Dolls. The first is at a dinner theatre, and the other is more of a community theatre production. We shall see, we shall see . . ..
| Cake_in_Song |
This isn't an audition, but in a couple of weeks, I'm probably going to get a chance to help the Park Rangers training session by acting as a "problem camper." It sounds really dumb when you write it down, but I'm so excited.
| broadwaybelle22 |
My next audition is in June for Fiddler on the Roof and I'm so excited! I would really love to play one of the daughters.
| LisaKitty |
That doesn't sound dumb; that sounds fun! I used to do a similar thing for some of the local fire departments when they did disaster drills. I always wanted to be the "head injury" patient, or something similar so that I could wander around incoherently asking dumb questions. They would inevitably end up strapping me to a backboard to keep me in one place. |
||||||

Sometime next month: The Dresser
Sometime next school year: A Midsummernights Dream. It's an outdoor production, so that should be interesting. (Our indoor theater is being redone.) And again next year: Cabaret!! This will be the last musical I can audition for at my high school because I'll be a senior....I will cry if I don't get in. I haven't been in a main stage production since freshman year. |
||||||
| DaddyDiesel |
|
||||||
| star2ballie |
^ Woo hoo! sounds like you did awesome.
I definitely kicked my audition's butt. Singing was a piece o' cake, and the dance was ridiculously easy. Call-backs are tomorrow afternoon, if I get one I'll be notified today. BAM! |

tomorrow at 1 p.m. ahhh |
||||||
| LisaKitty |
Well, I care! Congratulations! I attended generals for a regional theatre around here last weekend and got two callbacks: "Misery" (their fall drama) on July 21st "Urinetown" (their spring musical) - date TBD So those are my next two upcoming auditions. |
||||||
| Bianca. |
yaayyy honeeyyy! so you're probably there now, and you're ALL OVER my thoughts like WOAHBABY. But, I'm auditioning for a season at a community theatre I've done for years.. Not really seriously amazing shows.. but alot of fun. HSM, Of Mice and Men, A Christmas Carol (new adaptation we're writing. yeah. I know. why do we need ANOTHER version?? but whatev.), Joseph (for the 10th time.. not kidding..), To Kill a Mockingbird, and then R&J. Audition is tomorrow.. just pulling out an old fav. song.. like I said.. not too serious.. just doing something for the sake of doing it. |
||||||
| DaddyDiesel |
|
||||||
| MaryMag |
How'd the callback go? It's Monday now! All the auditions I listed on the first page of this thread ('cept for 1) are over now. Just went to the last callback yesterday morning. SIGH. Almost all done. Just one more to go... and that's in a week so I actually have some time to breathe and prepare. Gotta practice my Irish dialect for this one though... "be fecking yourself ya mad pig-shite drunks!" how was that? |
||||||
| MsDivaKate |
My friends all want me to audition for FAME tonight, but I'm really not feeling it. Plus if I get cast as all, I'll end up as Miss Sherman...and I just don't really want it,especially because its kind of a far drive from where I live and gas is freaking expensive. So I'm not lol
| Deester |
Tonight are "Urinetown" auditions. I just found out last night that the choreographer is Lawrence E. Street from the Broadway production!!!
I was so not nervous for this audition as I've worked at this theater a bunch... NOW I'm sh***ing bricks! |
||||||
| MaryMag |
|
||||||
| star2ballie |
Seriously!! That is AMAZING. Merde and best of luck...I'm sure you'll be great! |
||||||
| Deester |
Thanks! It was amazing!
Lawrence made me do the dance by myself in front of everyone and then said "and that's how it should be done". I was embarrassed and ecstatic at the same time. I've been called back for Little Sally, Little Becky Two Shoes and Hope (which I never expected). I am very happy right now! |
||||||
| Deester |
So they cast me as Soupy Sue/Featured Dancer?!?
I am not thrilled with losing out on Sally & Becky and I probably wouldn't normally take this role, but I think it will be worth it to work as one of Lawrence E. Street's dancers. |
||||||
| nycbound |
^Congratulations on getting cast!
I'm sorry that you lost out on Little Sally and Becky Two Shoes. It's frustrating when you get such encouragement during an audition only to be cast in a smaller role. But I think you're right that it would be worth doing the show to work with Lawrence E. Street. I have auditions for "Urinetown" myself in just a few days. |
||||||
| audreydarling |
I'm auditioning for Fiddler on the Roof in like a week and a half |
||||||
| Francois |
God Awmighty, THREE weeks from the first audition until you find out? I would go insane. What do they do, only meet on Thursdays? Geez. |
||||||
| Chevstriss |
Soupy Sue also doubles as Cladwell's boobalicious secretary. Much more of a standout role than Becky |
||||||
| MaryMag |
Yeah, congrats! I can't believe he singled you out like that - that is wonderful! I may be pestering you in the near future, Deester. I got a callback for Pam in the Full Monty and I believe you were in it, yes? |
||||||
| Deester |
Ooh, boobalicious secretary! I can do that. I was in The Full Monty last fall. The girl who played Pam in our production was mediocre at best but I can definitely give you my take on the character. |
||||||
| Kaaatrina |
Lmao. Seriously!? |
||||||
| star2ballie |
Congrats, Deester!! That is excellent. I love Urinetown, and I think you'll have a killer time with the role.
That is so awesome that he complimented you like that! It's one of the greatest feelings.
|
||||||
| phantomphan85 |
I have auditions for South Pacific soon and the director is also directing Guys and Dolls, so I'm hoping that I'm in with a good chance of getting Nellie or Liat.
Wish me luck! |
||||||
| jazzygirlsings |
I've been doing hella damage to my larynx with all of this crying, but I'm going to a Carousel audition tomorrow...I'm gonna DO this! I'm kinda excited, actually. Julie's a role I've always wanted to play... |
||||||
| MaryMag |
ahhhhhhhhhh you're perfect for that! know what else you're perfect for? marian in the music man. i know you dislike that show, but you're perfect for it and the awesome theater out here's doing it in june of next year, and they're holding auditions in NY in the near future, and you could come out and do the show and sit around my pool and sip pina coladas with me! i'm gonna send you the link and pester you to audition. you have been warned. |
||||||
| DaddyDiesel |
Okay I have Semi Prof auditons next week. Its for another season. I get 2 full songs to show off this time. Not just 16 bars and no dancing for this one. YAY. I am alot less nervous for this one which is good.
Jazzy Break a leg! |
||||||
| disneybeauty |
Just found out auditions for Jekyll and Hyde are July 21. It's a pro dinner theatre, so send good vibes.
| DaddyDiesel |
sending good vibes. Its a good musical for you since there isnt much dancing involved with this one and your focusing on your acting. Unless your a hooker. But thats a totally differant kind of dancing.
| DaddyDiesel |
How did it go? |
||||||
| LisaKitty |
Aaaaaaack! I've got three auditions coming up within a relatively short time.
1) General auditions for the local semi-pro opera company on June 23rd. The two operas they're doing are "The Magic Flute" and "Carmen". I did chorus with them last season, but I'd really like a role this time (especially since they only pay their principals, and not their chorus members). 2) Auditions for a community production of "HMS Pinafore" and "Trial By Jury" on June 24th. I'm actually not expecting to be cast in this one, since I'm only willing to take one of the two lead soprano roles. So I'm surprisingly calm about this particular audition. I know both stage directors and the musical director very well, so it should at least be a fun audition! 3) Callback auditions for "Misery" on July 21st at a semi-pro regional company that I really want to work with. I have no idea who my competition is, and therefore no idea what my chances are. I also have another callback with the same company for "Urinetown" later in the season, but they haven't chosen a callback date yet. |
||||||
| disneybeauty |
Swweeett! I am already throwing out the hooker vibe! (JK) I am really hoping this one goes well, but we'll see. Last year, this director called me last minute and begged me to be his main dancer in Thoroughly Modern Millie, but I was out of town for 2 weeks of shows, so no dice. Hopefully, he will have forgotten that, and I'll have a shot.
BTW, DaddyDiesel, what can you tell me about Lucy's accent? I've read the script, and I am still not getting a feel on how cockney she should sound. I kind of feel like she should sound more like Jo-jo the Super Nanny. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated, as would anyone else who would like to help. |
||||||
| MaryMag |
UGH. AWESOME. I am done with all my big auditions for the year! All the big intimidating companies had their general season auds and I've got the callbacks outta the way for some of those as well, so the hardest part of year is over for me! From now on it's just show-specific auditions I'll be attending, and those will probably be for the semi-prof or community theaters = less stressful.
Praise be to God! They all went okay! Not brilliantly, but decently at least! |
||||||
| DaddyDiesel |
Way to go marymag. I also wrapped up my season audtions for the year. Of course I only had two. I hope it all goes well for you. |
||||||
| broadwayxdoll |
ooooh! we did one of the songs from carmen for out winter follies. i was one of the three soloists at the end. you know, the three girls of one songs. maybe torreador. or maybe i just may be getting the names mixed up |
||||||
| LisaKitty |
Was it the Card Trio? With Frasquita, Mercedes and Carmen? I did this number in a concert once too (I sang Frasquita) and had a blast! |
||||||
| disneybeauty |
Thanks DaddyDiesel. The only time I have seen this show, both Emma and Lucy were just so-so. They cut alot of Emma's songs, and the girl who played Lucy was just, well, eh. They both attempted accents, but they weren't consistent.
I think I'll work on a faintly British accent, just in case I need it. Break a leg to everyone! |
||||||
| iheartbway |
I have auditions for college interest at International Thespian Festival next week as well as an audition for the international cast of Hairspray. Ah! I'm excited....but nervous.
Then in about a month I have auditions for Nunsense...yay! I'm still not sure what I'm singing for that...hah. OH! And Children of Eden, possibly. I haven't decided on whether or not to audition yet... |
||||||
| DaddyDiesel |
^^^ way to go. Sounds lke some fun auditions!!
Since the the season auditions are over I am auditioning for some other theatres now, that are just auditioning for specific shows. Starting with Smoky Joes Cafe. I am kind of excited by this one. I have done alot of the songs in the show, on the bandstand. So in musical format it could be quite fun. |
||||||
| MaryMag |
heck yeah for smokey joe's! i love that show. i may be auditioning for it too in october or november, so if you get in, you know i'll be bugging you! |
||||||
| bwayblonde21 |
I have auditions for Guys and Dolls and Starmites. I need to change my sig =]
| DaddyDiesel |
|
||||||
| Deester |
I knew very little about Smokey Joe's Cafe until I was hired to choreograph it last summer. It was so insanely fun! Here are some youtube clips from the "Teach Me How to Shimmy" and "Spanish Harlem" numbers:
Shimmy Spanish Harlem Sorry to highjack... I'm a proud choreographer. I only wish there were clips from the real dance numbers that didn't only feature the blonde (they're from her youtube account). |
||||||
| DaddyDiesel |
Yeah I saw those clips when i was reseaching the show. You had a great cast and wonderful choreography, in the clips I saw anyway.
| ~Dancing Through Life~ |
I'm in the middle of Thoroughly Modern Millie. And then I have The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe in august or spetember and I might do West Side Story at the end of this month. And that's all I know as of know but I find out about auditions like a couple days before sometimes.
| Cake_in_Song |
I don't have any shows coming up for ages. Probably literally a year or so. |
||||||
| mtgirl118 |
I have a sort-of audition for Cinderella (not the Disney or the R&H version I think) in August. It's a theater camp so I know I will be cast but I think the way it works is they teach you a song and you act and they cast it based on that.....this is according to my best friend who was in it last year.
I think I will do well as I'm one of (if not the most) experienced kids there. Ellen Marie |
||||||
| MaryMag |
Akin to always a bridesmaid, never a bride = always called back, never cast. Getting GREAT callbacks lately but no role offers...
...so cross your fingers for me that the callback this Friday goes well! Arg, it's with a theater absurdly out of my league, but WOW, if I had a show with them on my resume, I could work with like any theater I wanted in this city. 'Nother audition for a musical with a HUGE regional equity house on Sunday. But that's beyond absurdly out of my league - it's in every way possible out of my league. Insanely out of my league. Even their ensemble members are broadway imports. |
||||||
| Brackynn |
Argh ... audition next Wednesday for a performance scholarship to this Shakespeare course with one of the best Shakespeare companies in Australia. So friggin' nervous! Especially as they're only taking two people ... However, I do know that they're holding auditions over two days now instead of three because of a lack of applications ... which is kind of good for me, I guess, but that's not taking into account that they're holding auditions in about fifteen different towns *really wishes she could stop freaking out* So I have no idea, really, how many people I'm up against, or how good they are. |
||||||
| Bianca. |
Four hours until our Darling MaryMag's important Callback!
Let's get the prayers started now! |

well I will be damned I guess I got a call back for a company I wasnt expecting. Now I just got to go research the Robber Bridegroom. Anyone know the show?
| star2ballie |
Ahh no but congrats!!!!
I love that unexpected audition or call back...and it ALWAYS seems to be for a show you hardly know. Haha. Congrats, DD!!! When is the call back?! |
||||||
| DaddyDiesel |
ThX Star!
they havnt specified a time yet just that I was called back for a specific part and they would contact me very soon on the call back date. The show actually doesnt start rehersal untill 4/20/08. Got to love season auditions. But its semi prof and pays a little cash. |
||||||
| Eponine93 |
Have auditions for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in November. It's my second time doing the show, but the first time we didn't have a chance to pick our audition song. I'm going back and forth between "Someone Else's Story" and "You Don't Know This Man." I know "You Don't Know This Man" isn't right for the show, but I know no one else will show up singing it, I sound pretty awesome on it, and I have the sheet music to both the full version and the audition cut, wheras I still need to buy the music to "Someone Else's Story." Any thoughts?
| nycbound |
This was one of my favorite topics because I love to see what other people are auditioning for, so I'm reviving it.
In the next few months, I'm auditioning for: The Hot Mikado Little Women Dames at Sea Hamlet Proof What about you guys? |

I'm auditioning for Into the Woods (Jr) at a summer camp I'm paying way too much money to be in. But it's Into the-freakin'-Woods! I have to do it. I think I have a pretty good shot at playing the Witch, and I'm sure I'll post an audition help thread as soon as I've gotten the information package from the camp.

I've got a High School Musical audition in exactly a week and a scene study audition. About a week and a half after that I have a general audition for a bunch of shows. Those shows will take me untill fall, when I have an audition for an original musical, The Tsarina's Harp, and then a RENT audition about 3 weeks later.
| ActingDude17 |
I just had an audition Friday for Once Upon A Mattress (and got a part, see sig). That'll take me through the summer, July to be exact.
My next audition is the second weekend in September. It's for my community theatre's annual production of The Wizard of Oz. If I am cast in the show it'll be my 7th time being in it. |
||||||
| Shelb898 |
im going to audition for how to succeed in business without really trying on saturday. callbacks sunday. and i really want the part of smitty. and i have to sing two songs and do a monologue.
and then the next weekend i have to audition for a theatre program for the summer with the same company. its like a more advanced type of camp thing. im really nervous because all my friends are part of this program and it would be so embaressing if i don't get in |

| sopranoopianoo |
Next show I'm auditioning:
Sweeney Todd (end of June) -- In Ashland (never done theatre in Ashland) In Huntington, the season for A.R.T.S company I'm doing Forum with is: Clue the musical Some big band 1940's something or other (can't for the life of me remember) Fantastiks A Little Night Music At Marshall University (where I'll be attending this fall) their fall show is: George M! So, provided that Sweeney and George M don't conflict I will do both. Otherwise, I will say, that I'll probably choose George M... because well... I've never done Ashland theatre before. |
