Reefer Madness

Got the DVD...have watched it a rediculous amount of times (just this weekend), and wow it rocks. Then just now I got a recording of it, and I'm listening to it.

Anyone else a fan? Almost all of the music is good AND funny. Romeo & Juliet is done perfectly in the movie, and the actor really acts like the perfect poster child of the time (I think its his cheeks that do it). It's amazing how much he transforms later and gets so creepy.

For some reason I LOVE the song Jimmy Takes a Hit, the layering of them all saying one sentance over and over in a rhythm is somehow really cool, especially when the "and then the worst is over" line is added. The extreme anti-drug message is presented hilariously (especially when the narrator was making the "communist" watcher shut up by talking about how he is only disagreeing because the magazine has the word America in it).

I know this is all terribly random, basically I just love it, a lot.

It is my bastard child.

I'm getting the sheet music and CDs for Christmas.

I watched the DVD more times than I probably should have.

I have yet to see Reefer Madness. The musical version, at least.

I plan on getting the DVD for Christmas, though.

Come on Jimmy, come on Jimmy, suck it down for Sally.

I saw the off broadway production opening night. I was with my 2 sons , who were the youngest audience members. They were 14, and 18. We all loved the show, Greg Edelman was the Professor, and was amazing. I can't wait to see the DVD, in fact I just ordered it. I wish that I could direct this show at our HS, but like Rocky Horror it is a bit problematic!

We may be doing the show next season at one of the regional theatre's I work with. I'd love to play Amy Spanger's role.

Oh my God. Amy Spanger... that girl is straight from the pearly gates, I swear. She is SO DAMN AWESOME!!! And Sally is an awesome role. I just wish "Loved by Mary Lane" was in the stage version. Sad

I really wanted to like this show. I really did. Self aware camp doesn't sit well with me. The music is great though.
Monsieur D'Arque

R&H holds the rights to the final stage version, which does indeed include the song "Loved By Mary Lane." I possess the film's backing tracks, the final stage script owned by R&H, and the 2001 piano-conductor score. I'm pretty proud to be the biggest Reefer collector online.

I love Reefer Madness and I love the song Jimmy Takes A Hit, though my favourite song is deinitely Mary Jane, Mary Lane. Speaking of Jimmy Takes A Hit, when we were bored over the summer, my friends and I recorded our own version of it on our cell phones and it was our ringer for awhile lol

I watched the film when it first aired on Showtime, and I loved it so much I couldn't even wait for the DVD. I downloaded the whole thing from Limewire and watched it a few more times. It's really great. Alan Cumming is great in anything, and of course I loved Ana Gasteyer. Robert Torti was also a hilarious Jesus, and I thought the Joan of Arc character was extremely entertaining.
Monsieur D'Arque

Reefer is the rare show that was better as a movie than as a stage show. It's debatable that Rocky Horror, for its sheer iconic place in society, is also this way, but Reefer's screenplay definitely improved upon the book's intentional stiltedness into a seamless satire with more modern relevance. The added dialogue, such as the sequences with Mickey, Joan of Arc and Mr. Kerchinski are quite possibly the best parts of the book. It's a shame they're not in the play script.

My Rocky Horror shadowcast did a 5 song preshow called "Rocky Madness". Only instead of getting hooked on reefer, we get introduced to the "evil" world of Rocky Horror. I played Mary. It was far from professional, but we had so much fun!

Haha I LOVE it! Professional or not it still sounds fun, plus the audience must have loved it. I find that a lot of Rocky Horror fans also tend to love Reefer Madness, that whole cult musical thing, at least amongst the ones I know.

If anyone wants to check it out, it's on Youtube. It's about 20 min. long, so it is in 2 parts.

REEFER MADNESS backing tracks

Can anyone help me find backing tracks (karaoke) for any of the songs from Reefer Madness? So far I have found a midi file for 'Shakespeare" but I want something better. I would appreciate any help. Thanks!
