Recordings...

For christmas i'm getting my dad a Jesus Christ Superstar CD because he loves it...

Which one should i get? which one is the best?
I was thinking of the London 1996 cast with Steve Balsamo, Joanna Ampil and cast.
Lazarus (Adam G)

Does he like the original (Ian Gillian or Ted Neely) style, or the modern style?

If he likes the new style, get him the Balsamo one.

If he likes the older, original style, get him anything pre-1996 (except for the 92 London Cast with Paul Nicolas and the 1995 Jay Cast with Dave Willets).

I recommend the Austrailian 1992 recording with John Farnham or the 1994 New Zealand Recording with Darryl Lovegrove (I think the 94 one is unavalible Razz).

There are a lot of good illegal ones and a lot of good out-of-print recordings, though Razz...

The australian one is awesome but not complete. Why do most cd's leave out my favourite song "Could we start again please?" But anyway its a great cd.

I got the New Zealand 94' album last year off of ebay last year. It's not at all similar to a regular jcs album--it's very HOUSE. It is like 92' Austailian, which is also housish. 94' indigo girls one is great AS ROCK but again is not a typical jcs orchesration and not truely a cast album, just bunch of rockers who lke JCS. The Willets one IS a typical orchestration of theater but a little too watered down, and again, is only a studio album. The original Austalian I never listened to. There is some LP's like 2x a year from ebay but i don't think a cd exists for the orig. austrailian, and if it does, there's probabbly less than 1000. Now the strange thing is. i thought this was true for the orig. London Cast album. I was prooved wrong. I found the cd in Los Angeles in around 2000 used for $17. I thought it was a concept highlights becuase it sometimes gets labled that way. No. It was the real 1972 london with Paul Nicholas on CD mca. It's a medocer recording but it's a collector's item. The OBC cast use to be a rare cd for $35 but got re-issued and it's a normal priced cd. Ben Vereen was pretty cool. Yyvone Elliman (sp) makes a great mary. Fenholt is good too. The OBC cd is better than the rare olc but not as good as "the brown album." The german cast 2 2cd's in english(rockatorium/other one with wings on jesus) I haven't heard them, but I heard they both rock. The movie with Ted Neely is cool. The Gayle Edward's one---no comment. The 1992 Aniv. 2cd with P.Nicholas is great too BUT Jesus here may be TOO NIRVANA for you during Gethename. The 1996 London Cast album is the best. It really can't be called The 1996 Lyceum theatre cast cd becuase Cooper I think only played herod on the cd. And Getsename is beautiful here.....jesus(balsalmo) holds that note almost better than Michael Crawford....maybe better than crawford..naah........but still great. .that's my 2 cents.

I know! The recording I have didn't have it, and it didn't have John 19:41, either, which really annoyed me. I just bought them from iTunes and added them to my iPod folder. Rolling Eyes

I would definetly suggest getting a recording with these songs on it.
