Razor rentalsWasn't sure if anyone would see the post if I stuck it under the topic already started about the razors so I started a new one.
Does anyone know where to rent the razors?
I'm doing props for a community theatre production. We're looking into having them made but my budget is only $200 for everything and everyone I've spoken with so far has quoted me $300-$500.
I would would love to builld them myself but I have no idea where to start when it comes to the blades themselves.
Any help would be great.

I have the Sweeney Todd razors, but they are out as of now.
It is fairly easy to build the razors. I built a cheap one for about fifty bucks. I can send you photos of it if you like and the plans.
I have the designs and plans on how to make the fake blood razors, if you would like me to send them to you. The razors that I have are made of cut steel formed into a razor blade. The body of the razors is wood. On the blood razors it is an opened razors so that the blood can flow freely from a perferated tube connected to a blood tube in which the actor pushes and the blood squirts out. Very effective. There are also places that rent the razors out. I'm not sure where though. I heard one that the Royal Opera has the props from their production of Sweeney Todd, but I bet that it is a hefty rental fee.
I am looking into having more razors made so that I can have a collection. I started a post about the Sweeney Todd razors on this board. You could probably find a lot of information there.
I can send you the designs and plans on how to build the razors if you like?

Definatly email me the plans you have to make them. I'd rather do that since it will probably end up being cheaper.

Sounds good. The razors are being rented right now, but will be rentable in a month or so. I am also having a few more razors made.

It still boggles my mind at how hard it is to find the razors. You'd think MTI would have a few sets in stock for rentals like they do with the Audrey 2 puppet. The razors are such an important part of the show.
I contacted 6 theatres that had done Sweeney in the past 2 years. None of them knew if they still had the razors or they rented them but didn't know who they rented them from, etc.

I would have to agree. I have also contacted theaters, but none of them knew where the razors came from. It seems that I am the only man who has them to rent, except for a few companies that charge two hundred or so dollars a week.
I am having a pair made, hopefully, by a man who lives in texas.

Once I get all this fabrication tuff worked out and have an actual set. I may contract the guy to make a bunch more so I can rent them out in my area.
You take the west coast, I'll take the east coast and we'll draw straws over the mid-west

Sounds like a good proposition.
Who will be making the razors? And which design did you choose?

I still have to present the two designs to the director, but she's one of those directors that if you give her a choice she'll say "whatever you think will work".
I think I'm going to modify the copper handled design. They look like the easiest ones to refill and clean since my props run crew has never been on a props run crew let alone dealt with bleeding props.
My uncle's neighbor is a metal artist and he said he'd help us out fabricating them.
Oh yeah, the folded aluminum blades. Was the crease of the fold on the top or the bottom? I couldn't tell.

The crease should be folded over the top, thus drawing the blood down the open line at the bottom.

Quite right.
The ones that I am having made are just like the original broadway production, minus the sparklets.
