Our fall musical audtions are next week for into the woods and i really want the part of rapunzel. I don't have a monologue yet and even though the musical is mainly music our director still wants us to have one. I'm thinking about singing Once Upon A December from the movie Anastasia. Does anyone have any suggestions for a monologue or opinion on the song choice? thanks in advance!

If you have a smaller-ish theatre department, and don't think it is over done, Green Finch and Linnet Bird from Sweeney Todd is the perfect song. Shows the exact vocal range, and acting range for Rapunzel, and is also the right musical style. The only reason I would say to not do it is if you think someone else might.
*(and I'm saying all of this from experience since I used this song for my Rapunzel audition and it worked 100%. )

As for a monologue...hmm, I'll have to think on that one. The theatres in my area don't require you to do one, so I've never really had to worry about that.

As far as monologues, I would just go something meant to be acted as a teenage girl. Rapunzel doesn't have much dialogue - mostly saying "no" and screaming, with one little monologue thrown in.

Thanks guys. I auditioned yesterday and I hope to either get the part of Cinerella or Rapunzel. The cast list is posted tomorrow!

Just as an update I was cast today as Florinda!!!!! I'm extremely excited beacuse two of my best friends got cinderella and rapunzel and one of my other good friends is playing Lucinda. I cannot wait until rehearsals start next week!
