Random RENT Fact

I dont know how many people know this (I'm sure some do) that Jesse L. Martin stars on Law and Order! I was flipping through channels on TV and was like OMG, is that Tom Collins because I wasnt sure what his name was at the time! I was so excited! He acts really differently for the two roles, but he is so amazing! Just a little fact! If you know any other facts, you are welcome to add them to this thread! (Sorry if theres already a thread for random RENT facts!) Very Happy

Alright kid, it seems that you stand alone on this "new fact."
Old news.

While most any Renthead knows this, they don't know that before he was on Law & Order, he starred on an episode of the X-Files as a baseball-playing alien. No lie.
Brock07

OMG I HAD NO IDEA!!!!! lol Is there an actor who hasn't been on Law and Order?

Now the X-Files one...now that's interesting....

Edit!! I had interesting spelled wrong and it bothered me.
what_the_heck013

I bet you guys didn't know that the girl who was the original Maureen played that green girl in the musical about those witches...

A really sad fact:

RENT's creator Jonathan Larson died of an aortic aneurysm on the morning
of January 25, 1996. Sadly, his passing was just hours after RENT's final
dress rehearsal off-Broadway, and ten days before his 36th birthday.

I'm puzzled as to the serious-ness of it as well. Think
Brock07

Yeah...totally not funny. In fact, that's quite tragic.

But on a lighter note...OMG the other night I was watching Cold Case and I realized that Traci Thoms, the actress who plays Joanna in the movie, is a regular cast member on the show!!!!

Yes, but nearly everyone knows that Larson died a few days before Rent debuted. It's just common knowledge. Hence why we were wondering if they were trying to be sarcastic and funny or really stating the fact.
Brock07

I'm totally not, I'm just trying to have a bit of fun. We haven't had alot of fun on this board lately. Sorry if I offended you, original poster. It wasn't my intent.

And to the sad comment, I was puzzled as to it's revelence in a thread where everyone is trying to have a bit of fun. I've seen people post things and call it sad, when they are actually mocking the event. As in to throw the tragic death of our favorite musical's writer in our faces. As I read it, thats kinda the way I took it, simply because of where it turned up and what I've seen in the past.

But I'm obviously making people upset, so I'll stop now.

Random Rent fact: Joey from NSYNC played someone for a while...Mark I beleive... Did anyone catch that when it was being performed? Was it any good? (I mean, RENT is always good, but was HE any good in it?)

Yes, Google could confirm that for you.
Brock07

Yeah, but that would have been too easy...and I was fairly confident that I was correct.
Brother Marvin Hinten, S.

Here's a random RENT fact: Most of the random RENT facts pulled out by new RENTheads on this thread could have been pulled from Google in five seconds, or even recited off the top of one's head. (TVAW will tell you, and I agree, that's one for the "no sh*t" category.)
Nick-Ko-Las Enigma

yes but google sucks
BroadwayDreamer1993

Well, since I live in Australia, I don't know if it's come out in America or other places, but the movie Grindhouse stars Rosario Dawson (Mimi) and Tracie Thoms (Jo-anne)(from the movie RENT) are in the movie.
Brock07

Yeah, that was out in America.

Random RENT fact: Googling "Rent" gets you about 334,000,000 hits. (This includes sites like "Rent this apartment")

Googling "Rent Musical" gets you about 22,900,000 hits.

Yeah. So, I have to say, I'm not the most devout RENThead, so I enjoy coming to places like this to find some interesting info, even if it's in the "no shit" category for much of the rest of you.

So, please be patient at the different levels of fandom in this forum. Confused

Is IMDB banned in Australia?
Brock07

Give him/her a break! Maybe not everyone is aware that IMDB exists of that it has the vast amount of information on it that it does.

And it doesn't state that the movies are in wide release in the US. A movie in Australia could be the biggest movie ever, but in the US it may be a flop.

Oh, please. 20 minutes? Diehards? Any amateur who knows how to click and type could look up this stuff in 2 minutes, tops.
Brock07

yeah, depending on how slow or fast your computer is...it takes at least 3 for the regular google page to load on mine with my crappy dial up on a good day, plus however long it takes for the results to show, and then the actual site you click on itself, and if you get a bad site you have to choose another one...it's not unusual for a search for me to take at least 20 minutes. That's why I don't post as much on the forum as I would like, alot of time it takes too long for the pages to load.

Ok, maybe diehards was a strong word, but people who have an extended knowedge of the show.

If you are going to be so hateful towards people, why do you even bother to post? If you are so knowedgable, why don't you put it to good use and help inform the people that don't know as much about the show or it's actors? Or if you're above that, just don't bother because I'm not sure anyone here is real anxious to try to add to the convo in fear of getting their head bitten off by you.

Perhaps I am entirly wrong, but this time, I'm not sure that I am.

The thing is, you don't have to wait and you don't have to click on the resulting site to get a lot out of Google. Read the descriptions and the URLs and you can get the gist. I had dialup up until about 3 years ago. The first time I ever used the internet was on a Mac Quadra on a 28.8 bps modem. Easy solution? Surf with images off, turn off Flash, etc etc etc.
Brock07

Images loading isn't the issue. And I have now turned my flash off. But it doesn't change the fact that alot to times, to really know what the heck is going on, you should read more than just the highlighted part that shows up when you search. You just end up knowing more about the topic.

But enough of this nonsense. Back to RENT. Smile

Well, random Rent fact that won't pull up on google...

The first time I ever snuck into a movie theater was to see Rent, I was 21, and I know it's wrong, but I couldn't decide if the movie was going to be worth $8.50

Random RENT fact you won't find in Google: When I saw the musical, I sat in the best seats I've ever had to a Broadway show. Seriously... we had tickets for orch., second row center. The most amazing thing about that was we got our tickets from the TKTS board for $60 exactly two hours before curtain.

You wouldn't happen to know if it's a common occurence to be able to get RENT tickets at the TKTS booths, would you? I'm a n00b to the TKTS booths... but I'd like to give it a try, and I've been wanting to see RENT, especially with the [possibly] imminent closure.
Eponine93

Um... don't try this summer while Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp are in it. I go to the TKTS board about half the times I see shows, and the hint is to pick a day where no one usually goes and to get there right as the board is opening. For example, the day I saw Rent it was the end of January and about ten degrees out, that probably helped. Usually though you can get almost any show from the TKTS board besides Wicked. If you want to get the best tickets possible you should try on a Tuesday or Thursday night, not many people go to the theatre on those nights.

Don't worry about Rent closing either. Several of the actors (such as the ones who will be replacing Adam and Anthony) are contracted until March 2008. If time's not important to you and you want the best tickets for your buck, I'd say go on a cold day in either really early December or mid-to-late January.

If you're speaking of the Broadway tickets they aren't expensive at all. Probably the cheapest on Broadway. I think orchestra seats are $100!
musikal_geek

^Yup. $95, to be precise. And if you sit up in what I lovingly call the nose-bleeds, you can get tickets for $45!! Shocked
