Question...Alright, so my school is doing, Into the Woods, for the spring musical this year. I was wondering what you all thought would be best for me, considering these variables.
I don't want a big part because I'm very very nervous about singing in public. I don't mind being in a chorus, but I can't even give a speech without freaking out. This is something I'm trying to desperately get over. This is my goal for my senior year, to get over silly insecurities. I was told that every part has a solo. I don't know very much about this musical so I thought maybe you all could help me. Something small-ish, nothing too overwhelming, but I can sing just about anything.
Yeah, sorry this was so long, but any suggestions or opinions would be very helpful.
Thank you!

One of Cinderella's stepsisters, Florinda or Lucinda would probably fit the bill. And they'd be loads of fun to play.

There is no chorus in this show, unless your director chooses to add one in.
Cinderella's mother-only sings, soprano, a few solos, but she hardly appears at all
Giant-never seen, only heard as a big loud voice. Act 2 only
Stepmother and Stepsisters-the biggest characters who don't have a song for themselves. Loads of fun to play, the stepsisters sing together mostly.
Granny-cameo, few lines, maybe one solo line of singing then in a few other numbers.

Yeah he probably won't add a chorus... I was just saying, in past shows, being in the chorus didn't bother me.
But yeah, thank you for the input! Is there any difference between Lucinda and Florinda? Is one funnier than the other?

There's not really much difference between Lucinda and Florinda. They speak and sing roughly equal bits, and how funny they are depends on the people who play them. I think part of the characters is that they're hard to distinguish from one another -- our run is almost over and the director still calls us by the wrong character names sometimes. They pop in and out of both acts, and they're fun roles to play.

Yeah, as other people said, there's really no chorus in ITW. The stepsisters would be a good part if it's singing and singing that you don't really want to do, because they don't do much of either. However, if singing is your biggest worry, I've seen the Narrator played by a girl before and it's a really entertaining part (if you've gotten over your fear of giving speeches in front of other people). It's great that you're trying to get over your stage fright! And just remember that the part you get, you got because you're good enough for it (and you can probably sing and act better than almost anyone in that audience!)
