Question on "Façade"Could the song work in the movie version? It's a great number, but it doesn't really move the plot forward. It's sole purpose seems to be to bash the audience over the head with thematic exposition.
Thoughts?

You got it. Reprise a song 6738 times and that's what happens.
A friend of mine had a few callbacks for this show but was very glad he was never cast. He started to hate that song during callbacks and he knew he'd lose his mind if he actually did the show.

It could work. But it would depend on the vision of the director.
I could easily see the camera going down a busy street and random faces and people walking in and out of the shot. Do the number(s) in one continuous shot for each reprise... but in different places, settings each time.

I can't see it working as it is in the show-- well, mainly because it DOESN'T work in the show. Maybe use the melody as a transition between scenes and a drastically cut version of the first song, but otherwise, it's really not necesary. It just makes the show, which is redundant enough to begin with, a complete joke.

What I'd do with a J&H movie:
-- Stick to the 1994 recording (Warlow) in terms of plot and score as much as possible
-- Use the "Resurrection" recording's 'rock' arrangements of songs as much as possible (crossover appeal to the Rentheads and the original pop/theatre sound still there on the rest for Phans and 'Bleeders' - the latter is a ridiculous name if you ask me)
-- Cut "Façade" like a butcher preparing for market...still sprinkled throughout the film a la "Ballad of Sweeney Todd," but only the verses related to each event, not the actual chorus each time
I'm sure there's more I'd do, but I can't think of it now.

I couldn't agree more.
