Question for a Classic

According to Auditons.com, a local theatre company is doing Romeo and Juliet. The age posted for Juliet is 15-25.

Here is my question: Is this a guideline, or an exact measure? I am only 13, but have been told I look older than I am and would like to audition. Even if my chances are slim, I think it would be worth the experience.

Does this mean the actress needs to look/act 15-25, or that the actress must be 15-25?

Usually when they put an age down it means that they want an actor/actress who looks that age. BUT, they are more likely to cast an older person who looks younger rather than a younger person who looks older, for a few reasons: maturity, experience, rehearsal hours, etc. And especially when it comes to Shakespeare, it does take a certain level of knowledge and experience to really understand the text and perform it well. I wouldn't let that stop you from auditioning though...you never know! But I just wouldn't get your hopes up too terribly high.
