Question about singing "A Little Priest".How do you sing..."-won't they? Think of all them pies!"....on 'pies'...i tend to squeak and strain (or it comes out clear, depending on my day).

well...you start off with "won't they", then take a breath. then sing "think of", another breath, "all them", breath, "pies". slowly work up to the notes. DO NOT STRAIN!! it wasn't meant to be extremely difficult. you don't need to try too hard for "pies!" what's your vocal range?

if it's too high for you lower it an octave, it will go down instead of up, but it will work ok, that's what we did for "Matchless Match" in Fiddler on the Roof when we sang it because I couldn't hit the note, it's ok it will sound a bit odd but overall better than if you messed it up

Take a nice deep breath like you're going to yawn and sing "won't they" very lightly. Place won't they, in the same place you're going to put pies. You need a lot of space in your throat to sing this, don't belt out the beginning of the phrase.

if it's okay, i'd like to elaborate on this question in the same part of the song. i've never song this for a performance, just by myself or with friends along with the soundtrack, but i find that when i get to "Mrs. Lovett, what a charming notion - eminantly practical and yet apropriate as always. Mrs. Lovett, how I've lived without you all these years - I'll never know!" i have the damnedest time getting out the 'how I've lived without you all these years - I'll never know!'. any tips??
ps: sorry if theres spelling errors, Im really quite tired.

^Do you mean it's a problem for you pitchwise, or diction wise, getting all the words out?

Same here, theatre4life. I can't keep up with Len Cariou (or George Hearn or Michael Cerveris). This is probably one of the reasons that they're slowing "A Little Priest" for the film.
