Question about CATS coins on eBay

There are several eBay auctions for .999 silver proof CATS coins. Are these official, RUG-produced items, or just some replica a coin place made?
Spylfyr

I have no idea whether they are authentic or not, sorry! I'm sure there are other people here who would know though, because there seem to be quite a few people here who own (or have owned) a lot of Cats memorabilia.

However, I do have a few questions of my own regarding Cats items on Ebay! First of all, what are these things: http://cgi.ebay.com/CATS-the-musical-set-of-nesting-tins_W0QQitemZ7561263272QQcategoryZ778QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem ?!? Confused And also, is this an official Cats recording: http://cgi.ebay.com/CATS-12-tracks-from-the-Musical-BRAND-NEW_W0QQitemZ6449145775QQcategoryZ4357QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem ? Does anyone know anything about it? Last question! Do you think this Australian Cats poster would be worth buying: http://cgi.ebay.com/CATS-THE-MUSICAL-ADVERTISING-MATERIAL_W0QQitemZ7561996108QQcategoryZ18832QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem ? I like the look of it, except it looks like a piece of cardboard or something rather than a poster because of the two cuts at the bottom. What do you guys think?

I know there were coins with CATS logos and text given out on London's closing night, but didn't those have the image of two Jellicle Cats from the cover of Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats on it? I'm pretty sure that MsJellicle has one, she might be able to verify....

As I have no clue what nesting tins are, I really can't help you with that. The recording doesn't look like a cast recording, but maybe a compilation done by a vocal group and an orchestra, or that sort of thing. I really wish the seller disclosed more information about it. =/ And the poster, I think is really really cool. Yeah, it does look like cardboard, and the slits make it look like it's meant to be one of those stand-up display things. Which could be cool.... I wish Aussie post to the US weren't so much, otherwise I'd have a go.

The coin was maybe given out to cast members on an anniversary/closing. And yes, the closing London coin had an illustration from Old Possums Book Of Practical Cats on the reverse. It could also be just something that someone has made themselves, like the paperweights which are on eBay alot. The CD is a non-official CD.

I think that this is it.

Hope this helps

Okay, thanks for the info, guys! Maybe someone else knows a little bit more..

As for your questions, Spylfyr, I have NO idea what the 'nesting tins' are (though I'd love to know!) but as for whether or not you should purchase the Australian CATS poster, I would say that if you are interested in it, it's a pretty typical price--I've seen two or three of those the past few months, and they all seem to go for around $2-6 (probably because it's a large piece and shipping will be high). Hope that helps! Very Happy

The coins were sold at first with the US Tour when it first started out, but then they stopped selling them. My guess is that this person got ahold of the "leftovers" at a good deal, because we had paid a lot more than $17.50 for the one we had purchased. So, essentially, they are 'authentic'....but they just weren't available for too long. The $17.50 is a very good price. Smile

I bought a couple of them, hopefully they are in good conditions. Smile
Now have a look at this...

Looks like the seller had a problem with the URLs of his photos. If you click on the other items he's selling, the same photo shows up for a bunch of his other auctions, including a doll, some radios and some cell phones.

If anyone is truly interested in the nesting tins, I would e-mail the seller and let him know about the photo mistake. He'd probably be able to post the real picture. I'm surprised he hasn't caught the mistake yet.

I've seen those up on ebay a ton of times....and no one ever seems to buy them. I've never been inclined to buy them either.

It's because people decide to price them so rediculously highly. They're coloured pieces of plastic with odd figures on them. Definitely not worth $12 USD + shipping....

The ones Swan postes are from New Orleans. They're Mardi Gras doubloons. They're aluminium. Not really worth $12, unless you're a rare doubloon collector.

The London final night coin is made of Nickel and chrome. I don't think it's silver. In fact, mine rusted.
