How long ago was it written?
I think anything written over 75 years ago is in public domain, unless it has specific copywright laws, eg Peter Pan.

It was written in 1891.
But you never know if they slapped some copyright on it since the musical adaption is doing so well at the moment.

I'm guessing it is in public domain.
Being as all Shakespeare's stuff are and look at all the modern adaptatioins of his works, Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo etc.
