I would be interested in knowing the proper ages for the leads.. I've heard that you can play Liesl even if you're older and 22 and some times Liesl has been cast as fourteen year olds.. is there a large age range for all the leads?

I think the age range for the show is fairly wide. For example, the real Maria was only 22 when she married the Captain, but Julie Andrews was 30 when the movie came out, and Mary Martin was 46 at the time of the original Broadway production. The only limit is probably that there shouldn't be a 30- or 40-year age difference between the actor and his or her character.
