How big? How functional must the cannon be?
You may be able to find a toy lobster cheaper than making one, depending on what you're after.
And just for curiosity's sake, what are these for?

make sure you paint the lobster red if it isn't already. I used Golden fluid Alyric paint: Naphthol Red Light. It worked very well.
For the cannon (non-working): A large piece of PVC piping that has a big enough diameter painted black.

thanks!!
its for this week long kids summer camp thing...'landlubbers' and im heading up the dramas, and as its pirate based, those are some of the more complicdated props we need.

You could also use a large cardboard tube, painted black, and mounted in a plywood box on wheels. Shouldn't be too tricky.
