Problem with weird facial expressions while singing...

Help! I have a bit of a problem right now. I recently sang the National Anthem at an event, and I was very pleased with my performance. Then I saw the video someone took of me singing. What?! Well, I have the strangest expressions going on at times when I sing. I mean, I look like I'm trying to keep my mouth still, and at the same time ennunciate. Weird.
I am looking forward very much to auditioning for a university this fall, and I desperately want to eliminate this problem before then. Can anyone suggest anything to help with this problem of mine?
Thank you so much in advance!

I'm sure your facial expressions weren't as weird as this:

I'm sure your fine. Sometimes it's good. It looks like your really into it.

As for that ^^ I'm sure if I had been pushed to the limit and was finally about to make my dramatic exit i'd do faces like that myself =)

Part of the problem with singing the National Anthem versus singing a song from a show is that it's hard to be feeling something emotional during "The Star Spangled Banner" because you aren't portraying a character. You probably don't have this same problem when singing broadway stuff.

If you are still worried about it watch yourself in a mirror while you are singing.

What ever song you choose for your audition make sure you understand it's meaning and that you feel something while singing it. A song can be beautiful or fun to sing but if you don't connect with it on an emotional level of some sort it won't work.

Thanks for the replies, people! No, I didn't look like that! Wink
I never have any trouble getting into a song emotionally, that wasn't a problem at all.
You all made me feel better, though! You're right, it's easier when you are portraying a character.

I have a mirror hung on the wall over my electric piano. It's a very useful tool.

Another thing that could be causing it is tension in your facial muscles.
Try to relax, and really watch yourself.

I do as well, i find that when im not belting and hitting a leget note at the top of my range i make this 'cringy' face haha, i never knew i did it untill someone in the cast pointed it out! and sometimes i find it helps get my note out clear cause im feeling everything im doing. It happens! my adivce is Stop thinking about it and just DO you, other wise you may mess up, and lets be honest whats more important getting that note our clear and powerfull or makeing a 'pretty' face.... exactly.
