Potential Movie Musical CastsI'm currently developing several movie musical scripts and come up with my dream casts for each. Each chosen for their singing, acting and fitness for the part (Despite some never actually having song in a movie before) [Note: Not all parts are cast only major roles (or musical cameos), smaller or minor supporting roles can be unknowns or broadway originals, roles not cast by me fall in this category]
WICKED
Glinda - Kristen Chenoweth
Elphaba - Idina Menzel
Fiyero - Patrick Wilson
Madam Morrible - Bette Midler
The Wizard - (Undecided between) Victor Garber or Gene Wilder
Dr. Dillamond - (GGI Goat with a famous voice)
GRAND HOTEL
The Baron - Hugh Jackman
Grushinskaya - Catherine Zeta-Jones
Otto Kringelein - Norbert Leo Butz (w/ a little age make-up)
Flammechen - Scarlet Johansenn
Hermann Preysing - Alfred Molina
Raffela - Anna Gasteyer
The Doctor - Kevin Kline
Erik - Neil Patrick Harris
Zinnowitz - (Cameo) Roger Bart
PIPPIN
Leading Player - (Undecided between) Wayne Brady or Alan Cumming
Pippin - (Don't crucify me for this one but) Drake Bell [when he's older]
Charlemagne - Tim Curry
Catherine - (For a little vareity) Christina Milian
Fastrada - Bernadette Peters
Berthe - (Cameo) Meryl Streep
(A Remake) DAMN YANKEES [A newer ethnic version]
Joe Hardy - Usher
Lola - Beyonce Knowles
Mr. Applegate - Taye Diggs
Joye Boyd - Danny Glover
Van Buren - Cedric The Entertainer
Gloria Thorpe - Queen Latifah
Meg Boyd - Sheryl Lee Ralph
LES MISERABLES
Jean Valjean - Mandy Patankin
Javert - (Undecided between) Brian Stokes Mitchell or Jeff McCarthy
Fantine - Minnie Driver
Cosette - Emmy Rossum
Marius - Adam Pascal
Eponine - Christy Carlson Romano
Thenardier - Jonathan Pryce
Madame Thenardier - Kathy Bates
Enjolras - Anthony Rapp
OK, I have others but those are only about 5, so what are ur thoughts, I realize some may seem weird, but if u could imagine the shows you picture these ppl in these roles.

LOVE Gene Wilder as the Wizard idea.
and interesting choice putting Anthony Rapp as Enjolras... not something I'd ever imagine, but interesting ... *sigh* I love Rapp.

FOR WICKED: How about Joel Grey as the voice of Dillamond? Or perhaps Len Cariou... Wilson would be good for Fiyero, but i think Ewan McGregor needs a new musical showcase, and Fiyero fits his range from Moulin Rouge perfectly. He could even use his british or Scotch-Irish accent for it, since Fiyero is continuously mentioned to be a foreign prince.
FOR PIPPIN: How about Stephen Lynch as Pippin, and Harvey Fierstein as Berthe? After all, it's a common drag role.

If they made a WAY BETTER remake of Hair, I'd love to see:
Claude- Kyrre Kvam
Berger- Drew Sarich
Sheila- Susa Meyer
Woof- Haldor Lęgreid
Hud- Taye Diggs
Jeannie- Idina Menzel
Claude's Mom- Corinne Broskette
Claude's dad- Jim Rado [Yay!]

For Les Miserables, I would also be undecided about Jeff McCarthy and Brian Stokes Mitchell as Javert. Mitchell is the better singer, I think.
I am not sure if Mandy Patinkin can sing all of Valjean's notes, but he would probably act well in the role.
I question the singing ability of some of the others listed. I can picture them in the roles though.

Patinkin can definitely sing high enough for Valjean if thats what you're worried about (he did, after all, originate Che on broadway). I think the low notes would prolly be fine too.
Um, the Pascal and Rapp in Les Miserables thing seems pretty crazy. Pascals voice doesn't match Marius' at all. Pascal first off sounds far too rock in general (very gravelly voice) and while Pascal can sing high, he doesn't have a light enough tone for marius on the high notes. Rapp doesn't have the power behind his voice for Enjolras, nor does he really look like an Enjolras.

A new Javert ideaOk I don't know if he can sing or not (he can probably learn like Renee for Chicago) but I actually had a new thought for Javert based on looks, Kevin McNally [Mr. Gibbs for the Pirates of the Caribbean movies], he looks like the perfect candidate.

Zeta Jones is way too young for the role of Gushinsyka. the character is in her late 50s. there is alot made of her not telling her age because she is past her 50 year mark by several years.

For Wicked: I can definately see Bette Midler as Madam Morrible and Gene Wilder as the Wizard. Those are good names to add to a film production.
For Les Miserables: I can see Emmy Rossum as Cosette and Minnie Driver as Fantine. Christy Carlson Romano might be okay too.

OK Salome, I understand what u are saying about Grushinskaya. Who would u think would be a good Grushinskaya? (I've just always imagined Zeta as Grushinskaya)

I absolutely love the idea of having Gene Wilder play the part of the wizard in Wicked. I think he fits that part perfectly.

Meryl Streep would be outstanding.

Patinkin might have once been able to sing Valjean, I doubt he could do it these days. Anyway, I don't think he would be right for the role.
Treat williams however might do the trick. If he still has the pipes he had when he did "Hair" he could easily sing Valjean and, i think, very well.

Hmm, I played Fantine, and I really don't think that Minnie would make a good Fantine. She's not how I see Fantine. I can't think of a name myself, mind you.
Also, I'd like to see Wayne Brady on broadway. He's a very talented singer, he'd be amazing in a comedy musical.

Playbill online said that Wayne Brady was scheduled to be in a production of the Wiz, but had to leave because of a hectic schedule.

The girls I think would all be great, maybe have Uma Thurman play Fantine, when she played her in the non-musical movie she did a great job. But I think Minnie Driver would do good. Christy Romano would be amazing as Eponine, I can't get enough of her voice.
Patrick Wilson is the one from Phantom right? I think he might look to old for Fiyero, I think maybe Joey Macentire, I can't spell his name. I like the fact that you kept the main two leads the same. Gene Widler would make a great Wizard, but I wouldn't complain if they got back Joel Grey. Bette Midler, all I can say is yes! lol Great picks!!!!

SInce I'm a fan of make-up/prostethics in movies over CGI, I would like to see someone in make-up for the role of Dillamond. The make-up/prostethic is very good for the stage show I think it would be best to keep it close to the original production as possible. Besides you can always "jazz up" the make-up with CGI (i.e. hooves, more goat-like legs and what not) Besides you can still have someone famous do a voice over not sure who though. But those are just my two cents.

I have to challenge this read. Drew Sarich as Berger -- absolutely, hands down, no question. But Kyrre Kvam as Claude? He's not bad, but he lacks the power to really punch "Where Do I Go?" home, and I felt he tended to wander around looking helpless. My vote there's Steven Seale, the Jesus opposite Sarich in the 2005 Amstetten JCS show.
Woof? Truth told, I'm all for Jai Rodriguez. I think his delivery of the classic "Woof humor" lines, and his ability to ad-lib and improvise, would be ideal for the part.
Hud? I'd go with a relative unknown, Carlton Wilborn. He's a compelling dancer with a surprisingly sweet Gospel bass, who got his start working, of all venues, with Madonna. If he didn't work out, I'd see about prying the magnificent and staggeringly basso George Baldi away from his current gig as Rockapella's replacement bass, for the part. Would I be disappointed if Taye Diggs had the part? Hell no, but he wouldn't be my first choice.
After seeing the Encores! concert, my vote's Idina Menzel for Sheila, and Linzi Hateley for Jeannie. (Linzi would be a fine Crissy, too, but I'd like her playing Jeannie.) I will, frankly, blow the cast budget, if necessary, to bribe Brandi Chavonne Massey to play Dionne -- she's amazing in the role. Kevin Cahoun would make a wonderful "General Grant" for the trip, and could probably double as the "Old Fashioned Melody" guy, too.
No complaint about Jim Rado for Claude's dad. And hey, if we've got Rodriguez for Woof, think we could get him to ask Carson Kressley to guest as "Margaret Mead?"

HA! Anthony Rapp as Enjolras? Hell no! Give us someone like Josh Groban or better yet Hugh Jackman. Someone who can sing classical and has charisma. Adam and Anthony's voices are wrong for Les Mis, though Adam would make a better Enjolras than Anthony.

hehehe, yeah I'd have to change it up a bit:
Berger: Drew Sarich- I love how he acts and sings. He fit the role perfectly- he did not feel out of place; and interacted with the whole tribe. He was funny, but also very serious- his "shirt sketch" really seemed angry.
Claude: hmm.... I'll decide later.... but I really like the Russian guy and the 2005 London guy.
I'll do the rest of this later.

For Fiyero.... I always felt annoyed Norbert Leo Butz originated the role on Broadway and he was white... In the book, they make a point about it that he's not, and all these potentials seem to be following the blonde-haired blue eyed version.
