post-callback woeswell, i had my callback for Sweeney today.....it was blah
I'm pretty positive that i was one of the best musicians and singers there but I dont think i was a strong enough actress for the part i really wanted (Johanna)... they had us all sing a bit of Green finch and afterwards I was supposed to stay and sing part of the Kiss Me quartet but I was dismissed...only 2 girls were asked to stay. A bit discouraging.......
I have a hard time with bringing out a character right off the bat...i need to work on a show to get there.
So how does a singer become a better actress? it seems like it's easy for a good actress to become a good singer but the other way around seems more difficult

People seem to neglect training their acting.
They'll spend thousands of dollars a year on voice and dance lessons, but never once enroll in an acting class. Which, honestly, a lot of great singers and dancers need.
My advice for anyone feeling they struggle in acting is to train more. Experience is great, but you'll never get experience without some training.
And acting classes are a great place to experiment and blossom without the stress of trying to grow under the eye of a director.

amen to what Laurel said. Acting classes. I advise group lessons for the most part and usually only suggest private, one-on-one sessions with a coach when you need to prepare a monologue.
But equally important is to just be in shows! Don't be a diva and only accept lead or speaking roles. Being in the ensemble/chorus will teach you worlds about acting as well. I don't have the energy to expound upon all you can learn while being the chorus/ensemble, but trust me!
