Positive ways MdN has affected you

In other words, are there any notable manners in which this website has proven to be of benefit to you personally?

I'll start by saying that in spite of not having been here for even 200 posts, I no longer feel as if I'm an ugly waste of space who women wouldn't touch with a six foot pole like I did previously...granted, I don't exactly think of my self as the epitome of handsomeness either, but it's an improvement damnit! I really love how everyone showed their heartfelt support when I was going through the whole betrayal thing and my best friend's death.

People are really supportive here and I like that. It really is a community. Even the people I'm less than fond of are supportive of people when they're going through real stuff...

I find that, as a whole, when it matters- we come together.

I could write a book, but I'll try to keep it short.

First of all, without MdN, I wouldn't know a quarter as much about theatre as I do, I never would have been cast in Guys and Dolls, and I wouldn't be majoring in theatre right now.

Second of all, having a group of people who care about me but are removed from my real-life situation is psychologically invaluable. You can tell people who are in distant social groups things that you can't discuss with people immediately in your life, and I'm really not sure what I'd do without you guys.

This is really the one place where I can talk about theater and not be ashamed or scared of boring people like my family or non-theater friends.

And like others have said, the people here are SO supportive, and there is a lot of great audition advice/support/encouragement to be had, which is just wonderful. Plus, I have met some really amazing, incredible people that are just absolute joys to talk with. This is probably the most friendly and informative forum I've ever encountered.

I agree. Here I feel like I can truely be myself, as theatre is a part of me, and people won't think I'm weird for doing so Smile

Even though I'm one of the youngest here, I feel really loved and accepted. And that means a lot.

Agreed! Being one of the youngest girls on here is super fun. And the fact that I feel accepted after rejoing at the begining of this year is great. Smile It's so nice to have people to talk to who love theatre and are just as serious about it as you are. And everyone's just plain fun and supportive!

I became an instant fan of musical theater after seeing Mamma Mia!. So naturally I went to the internet to find out all I could. MDN has allowed me to interact with musical theater people from whom I've learned a lot. I've also had a chance to throw out my thoughts and ideas to test and better hone them. We all offer little bits and pieces of knowledge from which we come away knowing more.

I've probably learnt more about theatre here than i have at the theatre.

Also made loads of great friends. Mr. Green

One time I got a decent audition song suggestion.

Learned a lot here, introduced me to some great shows and taught me theres more to musicals than being a mega uber wicked basher as i was a few years ago.

I generally just lurk about so i feel like i know you all more than you know me (jeepers i sound like a stalker Laughing ), but theres some awfully nice people here too.
Yakko

Well I at least try to talk to other people about musicals.
MunkustrapQC

I learned so much about musical theatre here!

It's great to have everybody's opinion on some stuff.

Fourthed!

I don't know what I would have done without MdN ... I mean, I knew about it ever since freshman year but I didn't join till sophomore ... I guess it's more I can be myself and it's a theatre-positive environment! Except when drama ensues...

I made a whole thread about it! Very Happy

Dear friends:
Well, it’s officially been one whole year since I joined you all here at Musicals.net, and let me say, it has been one of the best experiences of my life! I met dozens of incredibly nice and helpful people here and it’s just been an awesome place to get to know musical theatre better.
I’ve said this several times, but I knew nothing at all about musical theatre before I joined. Before August 15th, 2008, I had no idea who Jerry Herman was, I had never even heard of Company, and I thought that The Phantom of the Opera was universally lauded, lol. But I got here…and you guys whooped me into shape. Several weeks after joining, I distinctly remember PMing Dawn and asking her what musicals I should get into, and she sent me a list, and I was determined to familiarize myself with those musicals before 2009. The list included Follies, My Fair Lady, and Camelot, and the like. That may have been one of the most important PMs I’ve ever sent, mainly because it gave me musicals to look forward to. Because of that PM, I have discovered some of my favorite musicals…Titanic included. Smile
Basically…I just want to say thank you for making this past year great, and for giving me something else to check too many times a day (as if Facebook wasn’t enough).
Call me a sentimental mess, but I really felt this was appropriate. Smile
So once again…thanks. To all of you. Mr. Green

I've learned a ton about musical theatre, got a lot of great advice (mainly about my ever-dramatic love life, but about theatre too), and have met a lot of really awesome, supportive people, including one of my closest school friends.
ilovemusicals!

Even though i just joined, i feel welcomed. Being moderatly new to theatre, i had a lot of questions and this is the perfect place to find the answers. I also enjoy seeing other's experiences to help me grow as an actor.

Everybody cares. You come here, you find intelligent, funny, open conversation about musicals. I can't talk about that kind of thing even with my classmates.

Also, I love finding people material that they didn't know of. Smile
