Portrayal of StepsistersHow do you think Florinda and Lucinda should best be portrayed? The majority of us are most likely used to the DVD, where they're portrayed as being beautiful. I saw a production where one was thin and beautful and the other was fat and homely. It was kind of an interesting mix between the ITW DVD and most versions of R&H's Cinderella. what do the rest of you think?

When I was Lucinda, we were semi-ugly. Our makeup was over exaggerated and kind of slutty and our day dresses were hideous. Our hair and ball gowns looked good though. I always think of the stepsisters as not being particularly ugly, just over exaggerated. After all, the script does say "beautiful of face", so they're just supposed to be wicked, not ugly.

Agreed. They are supposed to look beautiful but act ugly.
On the whole however, I think they end up the worst off. They become ladies in waiting(or something) to thier former servant, blind and limp and eventually starve to death.

When I did the show, the sisters were done "beautiful" style. Our dresses (or, at least, mine... teehee!) were GORGEOUS, and we both had semi-elaborate blonde wigs on, which was kind of weird to see because we were both very dark brunettes naturally. We were both about 6'0" in our character shoes, while our Cinderella was probably no more than 5'4", so there was a big contrast on that front. As far as acting goes, we were always bickering and slapping at each other. Very petulant, snotty girls.
