I know I may incur the wrath of some of my fellow posters, but I did vote for the S.O.M. While I know that it may not be the best musical ever written (and no musical can ever contend for that title) I find that it just seems to strike a certain chord with me, in terms of the emotions it arouses and the themes it raises. Although I've listened to the other key R&H musicals, I find that this show satisfied me the most emotionally. There is something about the way that Maria copes with her realities, and eventually helps Captain von Trapp and his family, srawing strength from her music, the Alps and Mother Abbess. In this way I find it a very appealing R&H musical.

I vote Carousel. The score just packs so much emotional power, particularly in "Soliloquy" and "Highest Judge of All."

Carousel. Eventhough "It Might as Well Be Spring" from Statefair is one of my favorite songs of R&H musical theatre.
