Political Climate Affecting the Shows We Love

While reading through the active Saigon threads today I saw a comment that connected the current war in Iraq to a Saigon revival. The point being that a revival would be unlikely given the shows content and the current feelings towards the Iraq war. Anyways, this got me thinking,
how much do world politics affect musical theater? Do producers actually weight political climate when working on a show? Is it purely the financial risk of the production? Is it the conceience of the production team? Without a doubt politics do affect Broadway just look at poor Assasins; one of my all time favorite shows that was shelved multiple times because of world events.
I'd love to hear your comments as well as:

1. Other examples of musicals being affected by the political climate.

2. Thoughts on what factors a production team looks at when having to make the decision to shelve a show (ala Assasins).

Personally I don't think Iraq -> Saigon is anywhere near the same scenario of Assasins -> 911 but it's good conversation.

And last speaking of Assasins is there anyone who'd want to meet up and see it in Chicago next weekend?

Or not guys. Unless this person is a PERSONAL friend of yours, they joined today and have two posts. I'd strongly advise you do not meet strangers from the internet.

Especially ones who can't see any similarities between the situation in Iraq and the Vietnam war.... Rolling Eyes

Don't be so quick to judge re the busted. It may have been a genuine naive offer. It's only 3 (nearly 4) days since they posted and they may have limited access to the internet.

haha wow

Wow, a real goup of intellects we have here. Perhaps, I've been working 14 hours a day amid partying on the Goo Goo Dolls tour bus and just don't feel
like I there's any reason to waste my time on unintellectual banter.
As we say in the US... cheers!
