Pocahontas - the musicalHey everyone! I just got cast as the Wordspinner in a local community theatre's production of Pocahontas. It's a new musical, not like the Disney version, so I'm not really familiar with it at all, and have never heard of any other theatre doing it before. So, I was just wondering if anyone else has ever been involved in this production before, or ever heard of it. We have our first rehearsal (read-thru) tomorrow, so I'm sure I'll find out more then. But, I was just wondering if it's fun or, if anyone has played the Wordspinner, what kind of a part it is. I heard it's like the narrator of the show, who sings and signs..kind of like the Narrator in Joseph...Dreamcoat, only not quite that big. If anyone would let me know, that would be great!

I have played the Wordspinner. It was in Pocahontas from Pioneer Drama Service. Is that where your Pocahontas script came from? If it was, it is an excellent show. I loved it.

I'm glad it's not the disney version, because they got the story ALL wrong...same with "Hercules"...it's not even spelled that way...it's "Heracles" and pronounced HAIR-UH-CLEEZ Because he's named after his mother, Hera....ughhhhhhh Disney makes me Angry.....oh well...they're good movies lol

It's actually both. The ancient greeks like you stated, refured (sp?) to him as Heracles whereas the ancient romans refured to him as Hercules. So, disney was probably just using hercules because it was easier to pronounce and it was correct.

But who cares if Disney screwed up the story for Pocahontas when it has an awesome score? Now Hercules... there's a few good songs, but not as good as Pocahontas.

Well I love Disney lol. Both films have great scores. For me, it has to be Hercules but Pocohontas (sorry I can't spell) comes very close.

I think that the butchering of Pocahontas is worse than the butchering of Hercules -- Hercules is myth, so it's generally accepted to twist myths/legends/fairy tales/folklore into more adaptable stories... Pocahontas, on the other hand, was a historical figure.
