Please Post Info/Advice about Nancy!!!!

I have browsed posts and know that this could be a repeat but please post your help/advice anyway! I am auditioning for Nancy in about a month and need all the advice I can get! I know a lot of you have played Nancy and/or auditioned for her so your experiences, your take on her character, your advice on how to nail the audition, etc. are greatly appreciated!

This is a high school musical, I am junior, 17 yrs. old. I am about 5'7", slim figure, red hair. I have been doing our musicals since my 8th grade year. I am a soprano but I have a fairly good alto range. I have sung through all of Nancy's songs and can hit all the notes. I am a bit worried about the belting aspect however.

I really want this role, it's the first time I have wanted a certain role this badly, and it's the main one! Of my knowledge, there are two other girls going for it. One is a bit shorter which will be to her disadvantage, but she is an alto and has an edgy voice and can belt. She has wonderful acting but shines in comical roles, I'm not sure how she will handle a serious one. The other is taller, has a very nice, clear voice, but her acting is not so great. I hate competition because I know somebody is going to get hurt but I want this role with a passion and want to learn as much as I can about how to get it.

I believe I will audition with As Long As He Needs Me or maybe the reprise because the original is too long. Either that or It's A Fine Life. I can get the accent down better in Fine Life and it's more upbeat which I think our director likes best in auditions. I have been listening to the recording of the show a lot and I am getting the cockney down pretty well.

I know this post has been long but please leave any advice you have on how to convey the emotion and the potential I have to play Nancy. ANY LITTLE PIECES OF ADVICE OR INFO YOU MAY HAVE PLEASE POST!!!!! PLEASE!!!
Thank you all sooo much!

have played nancy in oliver my main advice is not to go by the film i was told my portrayal of her which i based more on the book and jack the ripper reaseach (dont ask) was far more approprate than making her appear glamourious. With as long as he needs me really practise it cause its a show stopper. Its a fine life reprise is a bitch if your nancy so practise that alot aswell. Omm pah pah is fun so just love every moment of t is what i say. My main notes on her character is she is a beaten but cheerful prositute living in the east end of london. She is madly in love with a man who miss uses her. Just think of being in love with someone so much that you could never let go then them turning nasty but you are already to caught is the best way to do that. I sort of thought more along the lines of fagins gang as her only friends rather than her over mothering them because in the script its pretty hard to show too much effect in fagins den so just play it quite rough and it should all go fine,

good luck ^^

im sorry but you saying dont ask makes me all the more curious.
is it just b/c his victims were prostitutes in the area at that time, and you learned about their lifestyle by looking them up? im just guessing, trying to figure out how it would help for nancy
