Play HelpOkay so I'm having a meeting in two days to discuss the first play of the new year. I'm supposed to go in with 4 suggestions but so far I only have two: Noises Off and Die Mommie Die. We've all agreed to pick something fast paced and dark. Noises Off is the only one I'm taking that isn't dark but it is very fast paced so I decided what the hell and try it. So yeah if any one knows of any really good, fast paced, dark comedies with at least one gay charecter It will be much help. Oh and I'm sure most of you will think Kicky Silver but some one is already bringing a bunch of his plays to the meeting. Thank you to all that can help.

Hi!
Good luck with that!! Try ARSENIC AND OLD LACE by Joseph Kesslering, it is both fast pace and dark. I classify the show as a "dark comic farce." Noiss OFf! Is a very difficult show to direct, as you ahve to be in two places at once. If you have anyother questions, or anything let me know!!

What about "Rosengrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" both fast paced and darkly comic.

Dark of the Moon is quite dark, though not fast paced. To follow Salome's lead, Fortinbras is also pretty dark, but a bit funnier.
Lips Together, Teeth Apart can be fast paced, and it's very dark and beautiful.
Can you do classics or are you trying to do contemporary?

I saw a performance of The Visit that was very dark and faced past...and had a gay character in it.

Hey thanks every one! Yeah, I know that it will be hell directing Noises Off but I just finished directing so that job is falling on some one else now. Thank God. And, yeah, I love Rosengrantz and Guildenstern are Dead but both I and one other person in the company have already done it (me twice) and we really want to do something that will be new to all of us. I was actually looking at Dark of the Moon and it sounds amazing but I think the cast is too big. Some where in the 20's isn't it? We're trying to stick with something 15 or lower. I'll deffinately look into all the other suggestions. And here are two that I've found incase any of you have read/seen them you can tell me what you think: Cloud 9 and Accomplice.
Thanks again!

Accomplice is not a wise choice. Act I is quite good..Act II is completely tangled and confusing.

That's what I got from reading about it. Half way through I had to go back and read through it again and it still didn't make much sense to me and that's why I asked. I'm looking into The Altruists which is by Nicky Silver but the guy who's bringing in the Silver plays never heard of it so I thought why not. Don't know much about that one but it sounds good. I'm really leaning towards Die Mommie Die and I hope I can convince every one to do it though I've never read the play (only seen the movie) and the fact that it only has two female roles (three if you count the lead played by a man) may be bad. Any otheer suggestions welcome!
