Pilates Wife.

Okay, Im in Jesus Christ Superstar in school and I play Claudia Procula, Pilates Wife. Has anybody seen the show with her in it? if so, was it good.
Brother Marvin Hinten, S.

No. The character is not strictly in the show as it is. Does your character have any songs?

yes

i am actually singing pilates dream. because in the bible, Pilates wife had the dream.

YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME?!

I am sorry, its okay that you have a solo... but, that song is strictly for Pilate. I would kill the director.

Well unless he has permission from R&H library what he's done is illegal. The song is written for and designed to be sung by Pilate. It was a VERY specific choice on the part of the writers. Not only is it Pilate's introduction, but in Pilate experiencing the dream firsthand, the confrontations between him and Christ are infinitly more interesting. The actor playing Pilate can do incredible things in these scenes, because Pilate's dream allows him to do so. Having it sung by his wife may be accurate by the bible's standards (though I question how the writers of the bible were privy to such private information as a dream) but it is certainly not historically accurate. Nor is it artistically laudable.

Did i mention this is a high school show. I mean im not trying to be rude or anything but, it has been done in past productions. I know because a few people i know has played the role..

You can't have both pilate's wife and pilate and have them both be dynamic characters. However, given the frequent gender bending of the casts, I would love to see Amanda Palmer, female pianist and vocalist of The Dresden Dolls as Pilate. Her album stuff with her theatre-goth-cabaret background is interesting, but also essential is her bootleg album "The Ghost In You: Covers and Cabaret," in which she performs a variety of rock, alternative, and showtunes in her trademark minimalist style.

Biblically and historically, Claudia has the prophetic dream.

In JCS History, "Pilate's Dream" was originally written for the character. However, Rice and Lloyd Webber had just seen CABARET with Barry Dennen as the Emcee.

When Dennen agreed tol play Pilate, they changed the song for his character. As Dennen told me himself, "I needed a song in the first act."

It was hardly private information. While Pilate was at public court, Claudia sent a messenger to him who told him to "have nothing to do with" Jesus because she had had a terrible dream about him.

So would you consider it okay to have me be Pilates wife and sing the song? A mean I love my part, I wouldnt change it for the world. I'm just asking opinions here. Very Happy

the bible is a set of stories..not fact. actually if you read the recent biography of Pilate. there is no evidence he is actually the man who sentenced Jesus of Nazareth to death.

as for the Procula question. I wouldnt want to see a production where they gave the song to her. and as stated before it is illegal to do so.

Which book is that?

I've read some biographies on Pilate, and it says that he did sentence Jesus Christ...
