Pierce Brosnan Rumor Debunked. The new Higgins is...

Daniel Day-Lewis.

Neutral

Keira Knightley has also been confirmed, so that rumor turned out to actually be true. Thoughts?
Brigantine

Hmm....
I dunno.

there's probably nothing that will make the film acceptable. Wink
Salome

I love Day-Lewis but GOD NO! not as Higgins!
It has to be either Jeremy Irons or ALan Rickman or dont do it!

Why in god's name are they doing a remake anyway???

Indeed, and much as I love Keira Knightley she has a massive credibility gap to overcome if she's to pass herself off as a Cockney flower-girl, leaving aside the question of whether she can sing it.

Because God forbid they might actually do something original and expect people to go and see it. It's the same risk-averse mentality that's inflicting Phantom II on us.

Bad idea. I really don't think this movie is going to go over well, if it's true.

They'll probably do what they did with Julie Andrews 50-odd years ago: hire a tutor to play "reverse Higgins".
jackrussell

I like the idea of a "reverse Higgins".

Slightly OT but in Britain these days an upper-class accent can (arguably) count against you, as employers like the BBC are keen to show they don't discriminate against people with regional accents, and call centre companies also prefer certain regional accents.

They could remake My Fair Lady with a posh Keira Knightley being shown how to talk common so she can be a kids TV presenter.

I don't think they will, though.

What about Hugh Laurie, Dawn? Discounted him too?
Salome

I like Hugh Laurie alot but I tihnk the "House" association might tarninsh it for audiences.

Because I asked HIM to ask them,
The Duchess of Mint

I'd like to see the remake...

Dear "My Fair Lady" Fans,

I'd like to see the remake...just to see how bad it can possibly be! Laughing I can just hear Kiera Knightly making all of Eliza's songs into pop-esque sounding songs, with plenty of whining, etc. EEK!

I wish that the "Carousel" remake had come to fruition, too, because I would have liked to have seen who would have played the role of Julie.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I saw clips of Irons performing with Dame Kiri and was astounded. He was brilliant. I'm confused they didn't give the part to him...or meybe the did offer it, but he didn't want it?

anyway, I haven't seen too much DDL aoutside of GoNY, so I can't really judge how good of a Higgins he'll be.
GungaDin

Actually, Jeremy Northam is PERFECT for the role. ANd he can sing too!!

I'm kinda necro-ing this thread, but I just wanted to say that he's pretty to look at (just watched him in Emma) but I don't think so. But Salome's suggestion of Alan Rickman sounds really good to me. Too bad it's DDL. Stupid Hollywood people messing with perfection... Confused
Salome

lets just hope this never happens.

Agreed! This whole concept of a new MFL movie ...no.
