Peter Pan

Auditions for this show coming up...director said Wendy's younger brothers would probably be girls. I don't have my exact high and low notes, but I'm a high soprano that can sing pretty low. What should my audition song be?
DramaFreak84

If you wanna go with a song from the show I have heard girl (a friend of mine) with a low range sing "I Won't Grow Up" and she landed a part of one of the lost boys. I was Schme it was a fun show.

Well, since its a school show our director doesn't mind if we sing a song from the show, but I tend to try not to do that seeing as it is some kind of an audition rule. Thank you though. Smile

Any up-beat Rogers and Hammerstein song should do fine.

In My Own Little Corner? Its not too upbeat but its theonly one I can think of that I have the sheet music to. It's kinda...eh...but you know.

That sounds fine. It might be slightly overused, but still I think that would work fine.

hi, i played Peter in Peter Pan last year.It was a panto. Not sure if yours is a show. What a fantastic part it was.

What part do you want to go for and i'll try and think what songs they all sang.

It got rave reviews.

No, it's from the DIsney version.

If you really want Peter, do a really good version of any Michael Jackson tune.

Yeah, bad joke, I know, yeesh.

I think it's fine if the girl is playing a prepubescent boy and commit well enough to the role.
Baker

Tinker Bell is played by a small spotlight in the stage version.
Gwen

How sad.
Look at Mary Martin!! She was brilliant!! Applause Applause
It's been a traditional thing to have Peter played by a girl.
There's nothing really wrong about it.

I usually do not like it when girls are cast in roles that should go to young boys. I was an actor as a youngster and I resented losing parts to girls. However, as someone who has played Michael Darling in PETR PAN, there are special circumstances that might cause a director to cast girls in the role. Those circumstances being mainly the harness used for fllying and the PAIN it can sometimes cause even a very little teeny boy (if you know what I mean) like myself. I played Michael when I was 8 and when that harness got pulled at the wrong time it was like certain body parts were in a vice! OUCH!! Giving the Darling boys to girls might be saving a youngster from some serious discomfort.

Thank you for that visual.

I can just picture a little boy on stage in the middle of the air grabbing himself and squealing with pain! Oh, dear God, that would hurt!
Tinker Rigger

If your harness is on correctly, there's no problem like that possible. Sounds like somebody's flying crew was asleep during harness instructions.

Peter Pan is played by girls most of the time! Even when I was in it when I was 12

That's interesting. I never knew that girls would be playing boy parts for something as awesome as Peter Pan. It's too bad that this dude is sorta into acting, but is limited.

I saw this clip and felt bad that this Fash puppet couldn't talk because his mouth is possibly sealed shut. SO much for dialogue. If Fash were to participate in a Peter Pan show, he'd have to be a character that doesn't talk. Maybe a male version of Tinkerbell? hmm no.

I've always been obsessed with Peter Pan... I have a Peter Pan collection of things from around the world, including books from China and a mashushka doll (is that spelled right? probably not) from Russia and a million other things... but anyway, the point is, when I saw Peter Pan onstage for the first time when I was about... 7 maybe? I got so upset at the end of the show when the cast came out and I realized that Peter Pan was played by a girl! To make matters worse, Michael was played by a girl too! I was crying because I was so upset... yeah...

Now that I've done the show as John and I'm older and such, I think it definitely makes sense for Peter to be played by a woman... although I see no reason why a boy who can still sing the part and can act it well enough should be denied if he's better than a woman. But I don't see any reason to make John and Michael girls, they can easily be played by young boys. (I was 10 when I was John and our Michael was about 7 or 8... our Wendy was 13.)
