Does any one know who owns the rights to Pete's Dragon. I know Disney produced the movie but does any one like MTI currently own the rights. Or has any one ever produced a stage version before. Does any one think it might make a good Musical?

There is no stage version. I like "Candle on the Water", but don't really remember the movie very well.

Oh! That movie is incredible. I would watch it religiously when I was a kid. But, no, there's no stage version that I know of. It would be almost impossible to translate to the stage.

My father was in a production of Pete's Dragon in the early eighties. I guess that they used some sort of puppet for Elliot. I just don't know how they could do it.

This is a rather old subject, but I was just thinking about Pete's Dragon as a stage show. I really do love the movie and the music is great. I think it could be done. It would just take some creativity to pull off.

I just posted a topic about this somewhere not long ago. In their rush to musicalize the Ashman/Menken cartoons, Disney forgot about one of the most logical choices, "Pete's Dragon," which is already a full blown Broadway musical with plenty of sequences practically designed for the stage, just put on film.

I just re-watched the film the other day after not watching it for years and came to the personal conclusion that this film would work exceedingly well on the Broadway (or any theater) stage.

It seems to me that Disney, when taking over Broadway, didn't give their whole catalogue a good scrubbing. Had they done so, they'd have found that old chestnut. I can't wait for the day the idiots finally decide to do something right for a change.
