Permanant Toronto Run?I know im not sombody who is very buisness oriented, but I really think that Toronto should have a permanant production of wicked. My reasons?
1) When the tour first opened in the city, it sold out immediately. You were lucky to even have nosebleed seats. If a city shows such huge response to a show, why not set it up permanantly and see how much money you can make with a solid run instead of bringing the tour back three or four times every two decades? I know of people who would pay good money to see this show three or four times (yes, I know thats hard to believe for some wicked haters. )
2) I'm not saying this to diss any cities, but CHICAGO is not really what I would consider a theatre hot spot. Shows might be better off in London Broadway or even Toronto (It's the third largest theatre city in the world apparently ) than say Chicago.
3) (This is my opinion) Toronto is in desperate need of another sit down show. Believe me theatre has not been the same here since Mamma Mia left. It's actually little upsetting to have to wait for tours to come so we can see a show. I mean, from what I've heard there was once a time where Phantom, Joseph, Beauty and the Beast and Crazy For You and another show that I forget (hehehe) were playing at consecutive times. If that's not variety enough for any city other than Broadway or London, I don't know what is. The city needs a big name show, not to say any other shows are bad, but still they are less known. Yes, were doing quite well with Lord of the Rings, but that's just ONE show. What about the people who never really were interested in the books or movies (I loved them btw just for the record.), and we need another show that wont pick itself up and run away (and of course, many more sit down shows if TO wants to continue to have a variety of shows.)
Therefore since Wicked was a big draw to the city, especially after our little incident with SARS, i think Wicked would do our city well if it were given the chance to stay here longer than six weeks.
Please feel free to give your 2 Cents worth, but please don't bash me for this post. I felt like I needed to hear some other opinions on this matter other than mine.
