Paul Lynd as Mr. Macafee?

I can't remember if it was the movie or something else, but I know I've seen Paul Lynd (sp?) playing Mr. Macafee. Where was that?
kimliesl

It was the movie.

more specific....

the 60's version.

and he was macafee in the original b'way cast
Salome

the late great Paul Lynde played mr. Macafee on broadway and in the original film version. no one has been able to compare with him since.

Paul Lynde created the character. Of course there is no comparision!

He did the best job I have ever seen as Mr. MacAfee. The character wouldn't be the same if he hadn't been cast as that role.
bandguy

The character of Mr. McAfee was CREATED for Paul Lynde. Originally, the show's producer went to Lynde and he turned down the role because it only had 4 lines and one song. They assured him that the role would be expanded and as Lynde added lines to his character, the book writers added his ad-libs to the book we currrently use.

He did reprise his Broadway role in the not-very-faithful 1963 film version. He and VanDyke are the high points of that film too.

Lynde was a great talent. I'm glad we have his performance recorded for us to study and learn from.

Paul Lynde can be seen performing 'Kids' on the first 'Broadway's Lost Treasures' video. It's a compilation of performances done for the Tony Awards.

Yeah, I saw that on PBS a month or so ago.
Salome

he left a great comedic legacy...game show network run repeats of his old hollywood Squares show..damn that man pushed the envelope.

he is also to be seen in the 60s tv show Bewitched as Samantha's sarcastic Uncle Arthur.

And he was also the voice of Templeton the Rat in Charlotte's Web!
ADistantMoonAgo

Yeah, he's in the movie.

I thought he was on Broadway for a bit too? I could be mistaken
aktor28

Yes he was the original Mr. MacAfee on Broadway.
Monteen

I LOVE him as Mr. Mackafee (sorry I know that's spelled wrong) He is so funny just in general and when he does "Kids" I laugh soo hard!

He is AMAZING! He's the reason why I want to play Mr. MacAfee in my school's spring production of Bye Bye Birdie.
Salome
