Parts for men

G'day.

One of the local theatre groups have announced that "Crazy for You" is next year's production. I've read the synopsis, but I was wondering what the men's roles are. The information I'm after is what range the roles are, what songs they sing, how big the role is etc.

Thanks in advance!

Hey, I was in Crazy For You in Feb 2005. It was gtreat fun. Here are the guys parts:

Bobby (lead male) - a lot of tap, dialouge and singing

Bela Zangler - dialouge and singing

Lank Hawkins - a lot of dialouge

Everett - dialouge and singing

The cowboy trio - a little dialouge, various lines in songs, and various tap solos

All the other cowboys have lots of lines. It's a good show for guys, cos even if you don't get one of the above, there are still lots of lines for everyone. Every guy will get a named part

I was in the cowboy trio!

Thanks for that. Do you happen to know the ranges (whether the role is tenor, baritone or bass)?

Thanks again!

There's also Eugene Fodor (he may be called something else in your version. I think the London and Broadway casts changed his first name).

I think everyone is baritone-ish tbh. But Bobby needs to reach a few highish notes, so could be classed as tenor.

There'll need to be a tenor and a bass for the trio, and an in-betweeny for the middle part.

I think Zangler could be a tenor as well; but that's it

Thanks for that. Much appreciated.

I decided not to audition in the end as I had a clash with the main rehearsal days (Sundays).

Even so the director phoned me on the weekend of the auditions to see if I was interested in Zangler or Lank without auditioning! I politely turned him down. He also asked if I would be interested in being part of an off stage vocal ensemble, which I will think about.

Thanks for all the input!

Looks like I will be involved in the show now.

The lead trumpet player can't make one show so I've been asked to step in. I'm actually quite excited!

It's a great show. You'll have a lot of fun doing it. I personally think that the roles of Zangler and Lank are some of the best comedic roles written for musical theater in the 90s. The second half of the show is where both characters really shine. Zangler in the "What causes that" song and Lank in the "Naughty Baby" song. BTW, for the show to work well the roles of Bobby and Zangler need to be played by actors with the same size and builds.

Well the run has started. I saw it opening night and play in the pit this coming Friday and Saturday night.

The local paper did a review and it raved, so no doubt everyone is pleased.
