Found the Paris cast on iTunes and I bought "A la volonté du peuple" (Do You Hear The People Sing?", my favorite song and it blows the socks off the London cast. I think I'm going to buy "Le grand jour" now, my second favorite song.

Agreed. The cast is stellar. The orchestra sounds clear--the voices never overpower it and vice-versa. And it features some of the finest mixing jobs I've ever heard.

I paid a ridiculous amount for the actual CD on eBay several years ago. Since then, I've been informed that I could have gotten it cheaper.

I purchased mine at a Tower Records in Pasadena, CA waaaaay back in the mid-90's. I found the Austrian recording there, as well.

I purchased mine at Amazon.fr not long ago.
But although I love the PRC I don't like that much "A la volonté du peuple". Maybe because i don't like very much paris enjolras.
Also, although I generally like a lot the Paris lyrics I dislike the "red and black" lyrics. Some times they rhyme in a too obvious way and some times they are really corny... maybe Boubil was having a bad day because the whole café scene makes me cringe more than once.

Back on topic: if you liked PRC "A la volonté du peuple" try listen to the Original French Concept. WOW! The first time I listened to it like 6 or 7 times in a row. And it still gives me goosebumps from the very first note.
At first I was distrustful about it because of the cast:
Sardou? Adamo? Delpech? weren't these the people my parents used to listen to when they were young? But really, if there is a "do you hear..." that makes you want to join the revolution, that's OFC "a la volonté du peuple"!
Oh, and the last verses of the previous kind of "red and black" song: "c'est pour demain, préparons nous à tout puisque nous n'avons rien, et le tout pour le tout!". They are glorious!
O.K. the "nous n'avons rien" is a bit weird but, who cares! *goosebumps goosebumps gosebumps*

Heh, back when I bought it on eBay, I had only ever seen it go by once, and then it had sold for over $100. I kid you not. So when another went on sale I snatched it up and thought I was sooo lucky to have gotten it for less than $100... though I paid more than fifty... then when I got here, I realised that only idiots buy something that expensive on eBay without checking various amazons and things first...



Still, I maintain that it was totally worth it.

I can't find the PRC by itself. It's always with the OFC, which I already have. Does anyone know where I can buy it alone?

i bought it at amazon.fr for 20 euros. But if I was in your place i would get the OFC too. it is really worth it.

The Paris recording is indeed excellent!.

I agree with BigR though about "A la Volonte De Peuple". The OFC is my favourite. It is wonderfull!!!.

The Paris one has an excellent "On my Own", and i also love "Empty Chairs at Empty tables".

The Paris and Original French recordings are definitely my favorites! The OF's A la volonte du Peuple is my favorite version of that song. I also adore the Eponine, Valjean, Fantine. Marius, and Gavroche on the Paris cast. And I also really like the Prouvaire.
