A lot of people haven't heard of Parade because it wasn't on Broadway for very long because it is kind of dark. It did win a tony though, it is a great musical and the songs are beautiful ("You Don't Know This Man" is my favorite). I am in the show right now as Mary Phagen. If you know about the show this is the place to talk about it!

This show is one of the masterpieces of musical theatre of the last decade. It's amazingly touching and still avoids from being too dark to enjoy. Which is odd as its insanely sad, so its not so much that it isn't sad as the presentation isn't slow and boring just becuase the subject matter is sad. This could have been an easy trap to fall into as while handeling such sensitive material that seems the tendency. It was a huge risk to take on this topic and I think it worked out perfectly.

But it's such a risk to put it on as an amateur show because guarateed it will not sell unless you fill the theatre with JRB fans everynight.

What's the story line of Parade? I'm working up a song "How Can I call this Home" from it and I don't know exactly what it's about. I absolutely love the music though.

Oooh, Parade. I got the cast recording recently after I heard Audra McDonald's version of "You Don't Know This Man" on her Way Back To Paradise CD. I fell completely in love with it, and now it's one of my favorite scores. I would love to see it, the score is so amazing. Parade has got to be one of the most depressing musicals ever written, but the score is so beautiful and just brilliant.
