Pajama Game Auditions!OK to be perfectly honest, I'm not one of those theater people who have been singing and dancing since they were three. I started singing freshman year and dancing this september. However, even as a "late-bloomer" I discovered a love for theatre and a desire to continue it.
I am a junior in high school and am trying out for "The Pajama Game" at a local all-boys school. I think the directore, despite being somewhat insane liked me a great deal during last year's show, so that's a plus since he gave me some ensemble cameo things that were not in the script.
My experience:
"Working" 2004 Pit Orchestra
Chapel Singers Soph, Junior years
"Jesus Christ Superstar" 2005 Featured ensemble (one of the soloist reporters)
*this show won a huge award last year*
"Me and My Girl" At same school that Im' trying out for this year I was May Diss, which has no lines, but I was introduced to the main character during a party. It was very amusing if you know the show.
"Cinderella" Featured Ensemble I was a soloist in the first scene, and did wonders with my character. My line was "I wish I hadn't married Sam", so throughout the show I would flirt and take off my HUGE engagement ring when I tried the slipper on. I also danced with the prince as this charater and slapped his butt. I got lots of laughs!!! I was really disappointed I wasn't a stepsister, but I liked what I did with this ensemble part.
I tried out for a few other things and didn't make it.
I took a theater elective at my school and had leads in our in-class plays.
I would love to have voicce training someday, but am not taking lessons right now. I have agreat orchestra director that could help me out though. I would say that I am a mezzo, and I can sing comfortably to like an E. After that it's hit-or-miss I'm not the best dancer, but I took the initiative to take lessons this year to help with these things. I think I can belt pretty decently.
Anyway, I have been working really hard since freshman year to improve my musical theater-ness, and it would so SOO wonderful if I could get a REAL part with lines and and a name that I don't make up.
I was thinking of singing "Thinking of No One But Me' from Me and My Girl
I know its great to be in the ensemble, but I think it would be so cool to get a part. I've researched the show and ALWAYS read Musicals.net for auditions. Any tips???

Are you SURE you want to do Pajama Game. My experience with it was borderline bad. But when you audition for this show, your song has to be funny. All of the big female parts in the show are funny.

Yes I've heard that. However, I like the music and think the story is cute. Maybe I have horrible taste in musicals. Everyone disliked "Me and My Girl" last year but I loved it! I like British humor anyway.
So yeah, I'm definately auditioning since I like the school and want to hang out with my friends, who all did the show last year.
By the way, auditions are on the 24th of January. I'm not procrastinating; they just announced it.

What aren't you familiar with? You can order all of these shows as piano/vocal highlights for about $20.

No I wasn't familiar with all the songs, so I listened to samples/first pages of sheet music on Musicnotes. I get the ordering and whatnot. Sorry!

Wow, I'm sorry!
These ones in particular I don't really know:
The Love of My Life from Brigadoon
My Mother's Wedding Day from Brigadoon
As We Stumble Along from the Drowsy Chaperone
The song I mentioned above, "Thinking of No One But Me" is also quite amusing as Jacquie discusses her aspirations to be fabulously wealthy; However, I'm not sure if I should sing something from the year before.
Any other suggestions would be great. I haven't quite found "the one" yet.
I'm so nervous I'll pick the "wrong" song and not do as well at auditions!
Thanks for all your help!

Never sing a song from a show your company just produced. I wouldn't suggest doing the same audition song twice in a row for the same director because they know what it sounds like from you. Do something fresh...
