Overrated vs. Underrated

What do you think is the most overrated musical and what do you think is the most underrated? Not sure what I think is most overrated, but I definitely think Brigadoon is most underrated. The plot, the music, the everything is GREAT!

hmmm.

Overrated- Wicked
Underrated- Brigadoon or Dude

Although I adore Wicked, I do think it's overrated. I'm a little bit sick of it at the moment actually, because EVERYONE loves it and it's getting unoriginal to say "I love Wicked." So,

Overrated: Wicked
Underrated: Brigadoon

Overrated = Oliver, Annie or Grease. Ugh!

Underrated = Into the Woods. I know everone here loves it but i don't personally know anyone who has even heard of it.

Wow. It's pretty much unanimous that Wicked is greatly overrated. Mr. Green I mean, I like Wicked, but EVERYONE does it and it's so overdone and overused that it's kind of boring now--worn thin, kind of. Sort of hard to explain, but that's how it is. Sort of like fluff posing as something deep that seems deep when you first see it, but then later just seems like fluff.

I am very disappointed in Wicked right now.

Remember, overrated and underrated don't necessarily mean what you're tired of hearing about and what you'd like to hear more about.

For example, "Wicked" is not overrated - it hasn't even gotten around the world yet , and of those who do know of it, pretty much everyone acknowledges it as very light fare with a few catchy songs. I happen to like it, but I don't think anyone with any background in musical theatre really thinks it's up there with the best of the best. Maybe the girls in someone's middle school drama club can't stop talking about it, but that doesn't make it overrated. That just makes it Broadway's "My Little Pony."

Likewise, because something hasn't saturated your hometown yet doesn't make it underrated. If something has won the Best Musical Tony, it's not underrated.

For my picks, "Oklahoma" is the most overrated. We all know that it was revolutionary in its day, but now it's getting tired and no one will let it rest. I don't have a top pick for underrated, but strong cases could be made for "Once Upon a Mattress," "Children of Eden," and "Little Mary Sunshine."

I agree Lil Abner is under rated, its brilliant! a fun show with a great score and outstanding social and political satire. Its simply one of the best musicals ever writen.

Couldn't agree more—the script and lyrics are fantastic. Comedically strong from start to finish, and the show stays true to the comic strip. I'm so glad to have done this show!
