Out of the question???

Is it entirely wrong for me to write on my audition sheet that I would like to be Lefou if I'm a girl and the company I'm auditioning for might actually consider casting me that way even though it's a male character?

What do you think.

Is it acceptable to write that as an option or no?

There's nothing wrong with a girl playing Lefou. I know there a bunch on here that have played the character as a female.

Not at all. A friend of mine was Lefou in her school's production and had a blast! If you want, and they'd consider letting a girl do it, go for it!

I personally hate it when a girl plays Lefou but maybe that's just because I played him myself.

But go for it. I don't see why not.

I believe what's being asked is "is it okay to write who I want to be on my audition sheet?"

No.

Oh, and about Lefou being a girl?

No.
Trevor

Lefou is mainly funny because he's a man (kinda). A girl playing Lefou could be taken as her having a crush on him and then Lefou turns into Eponine from Les Miserables. Doesn't work too good. Lefou's mancrush is what makes him so funny. He's a dorky little man.

We want him singing "Gaston"... not "On My Own".

Tehe, I can just picture Lefou getting up there singing On My Own... but anyway...

A girl can play Lefou as a man. I'm a very feminine girl, but have been more then happy to play male parts, dressed as a man.

And even if Lefou was played as a girl, who really cares?! There is usually not very much male talent in highschools, speaking for my own anyway, and only a few great girl roles in Beauty. I say go for it, and if you're better than the boys you should get the part.

No.

There's nothing wrong with communicating what your preference is. You're being a doormat if you don't let them know what you'd like. In fact, they usually ask outright. I've never auditioned for an amateur production that didn't specifically ask on the audition sheet what roles you're interested in.
