Our High School Production of Cats 2008

This is a couple of pictures from our production of Cats. We played twice at Salle Albert-Rousseau in Quebec City in front of 1500 persons each day. The whole project cost $80,000 and we were 48 in the cast. I was Munkustrap!

At the last rehearsal :

Me in the prologue

During Old Gumbie Cat

The Cast and I During Old Deuteronomy

Growltiger's Boat

During the April 24th Show :

Me just before "Prologue : Jellicle Song for Jellicle Cats"

Victoria's solo during "Invitation to the Jellicle Ball"

My girlfriend (who played Quaxo/Mr. Mistoffelees) and I during "Invitation to the Jellicle Ball"

My girlfriend (Quaxo) singing : Old Deuteronomy?

Grizabella during "Grizabella the Glamour Cat (Reprise)"

Griddlebone, Growltiger and his crew during "Growltiger's Last Stand"

Skimbleshanks' Train

Macavity just before "Macavity Fight"

Rum Tum Tugger during "Mr. Mistoffelees"

Mr.Mistoffelees or I should say Ms.Mistoffelees

The last note "Journey to the Heaviside Layer"

If there's some part of the show that you wanna see, I've got at least 30 pictures for each songs! Just ask in the thread! Very Happy

I can see why it cost so much. It must have taken some effort to get the Galleon on and off stage. But only two shows?
It's also a shame that they couldn't fill all of the male princple roles with male cast members.

Can you post pictures of:
Macavity (song)
The Jellicle Ball
Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer

please?

Yes it's always a problem a our school, the number of boys. From Cats, there's only one boy who come back for the next musical (a way bigger production than Cats, aoutch) because all others graduate. And we can't say that this boy can fit in a male part (5'1", not 100 pounds, countertenor range)

JIMMINY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!! Shocked

Number 1: How in the world did you guys get this kind of money?

Number 2: Did you recoup your expenses and make profit on it?

Number 3: You guys must have either talented dancers, or very hard workers. The dancing in that show does not seem very easy.

Number 4: What are you guys doing next year that is even bigger?

P.S. Looks amazing by the way!

Number 1 : We have a couple of investor an our high school invest too.

Number 2 : We don't make any profit (we were something like $500 in the negative at the end...but it's okay now)

Number 3 : On 48 persons, 15 of them are dancers for over 10 years...The toughest choreogaphy was "Macavity" and they take the 12 best dancers...But we had a lot of hard worker who were helped by 4 great choreographe and also by the talented dancers in the show. By the way, I was the older in the show and I just turned 17 the day of the show, so this was a really young cast

Number 4 : Our director and his are attempting to have the rights for The Lion King. The budget will be between $120,000 to $150,000! Our director said recently that they have 20% of chance to have the rights of The Lion King.

Thanks for posting, they're great!

Yes, they look great. Clearly a lot of great dancers in the cast, and a lot of effort on the technical side as well. I'm a little disappointed in the extensive use of animal print and a few hair choices(does Macavity have a rainbow-colored wig?) but it doesn't detract from the overall impressiveness. You guys did this show at a scale that most school productions can't acheive.
Shocked on the Jellicle Ball scene. How you fit that many people on that stage without anyone bumping into each other, I'll never know.
Is the school a performing arts school? Also, how often does your girlfriend hear that she looks like Michelle Trachtenberg?

Thank You very much!

1) I am disappointed too. We were suppose to have the exact same costume of the DVD but the company who were suppose to do them decide to cancel 2 months before the show, so the animal-printed costume is the best thing we found in the time we had... It's my only deception...
A zebra-Munkustrap lol...

2) No we are a normal high school (in Quebec, high school finish at 17 years old)

Skimbleshanks?

I also really want to see a clear picture of Macavity himself... Plz?

This is a picture at the end of the bow!

I love your costumes and set.

We did our production in a blackbox....so it seems so foreign to me to put Cats on up on an actual stage! Wink I love how you got to fly things in and out though...wish we could have done that. It really must add a lot, I'd imagine.
