OT - I want your help, loves. (monologues!)Soooooo I'm taking a Musical Theatre class at my university, and in it, among other things, we have to perform two 'auditions'. The first, on Thursday, we were given a monologue (Luisa's from The Fantasticks) and picked 16 bars of a song (I chose "What Was a Woman to Do" from Dirty Rotten Scoundrels).I really need to, however, pick my monologue for the second audition. We aren't allowed to ask the instructor for help, and I'd really like to hear if any of you have some suggestions for me! Here are the requirements: -must be comedic -must be less than 1.5 minutes -must compliment my song... either being a total contrast or compliment of mood I'm either going to sing "Ladies Who Lunch" from Company, which is a rather bitter/cynical song, or "Climbing Uphill" from The Last Five Years, a song which takes place during an audition, and how stressful it is (how appropriate!). I do love you all dearly. I'd love to hear any input. I know this could go easily in the Misc section, but I know you guys. Soooo yea. |

finding a comedy monologue is very hard for us girlies (well in my experience here in the UK) but maybe this book looks quite okay to have a look at: The Ultimate Audition Book: 222 Comedy Monologues, 2 Minutes And Under Vol. 4 (Monologue Audition Series) (Paperback)
by Irene Ziegler Aston (Editor), John Capecci (Editor) found it on amazon.com. I would even look at some of the monologues in Snoopy The musical or You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. there's a funny monologue that Sally Brown recites called the 'Coathanger Speech' http://www.whysanity.net/monos/charliebrown.html often 'playing down' (that's being a person much younger than yourself if anyone's confused) can be a very funny way of getting a speech across, it would be totally different from the Ladies Who Lunch song too. or maybe some of the Dr Seuss rhymes can be put across as a monologue? will have another think when im not so tired! xx |
