OT: "La Boheme" in movie theatresAn update from the opera geek:
Robert Dornhelm's film version of "La Boheme," starring Rolando Villazon and Anna Netrebko as Rodolfo and Mimi, is playing in select cinemas for the next few weeks. I just saw it yesterday and loved it. A few of the director's choices are weird and some of the acting is a little stagy, but overall it's very, very well done and the chemistry between Villazon and Netrebko is outstanding.
If anyone here still hasn't seen "Boheme," or has only seen the Baz Luhrmann production and not one with the traditional 19th century setting, I recommend it.
Here are the dates and places where it's still scheduled to show. Hopefully, some people who read this live in these areas:
Tucson, AZ (The Loft Cinema), September 29
Los Angeles, CA (Laemmle Music Hall), October 1st (if you go to this one and see two middle-aged women, one tall and either gray- or red-haired, one short and blonde, the blonde one is my mom: she'll be going on that day with a friend)
Pasadena, CA (Laemmle’s Playhouse), October 1st
Encino, CA (Laemmle Town Center 5), October 1st
San Francisco, CA (Vogue Theatre), October 4th
