OT: Alfred Hitchcock

I enjoy a well-directed movie very very much. My dad's pretty into Hitchcock stuff, and I really want to watch more... but I'm really really sensitive when it comes to scary movies. Like, a 30-second clip of a horror movie will give me nightmares for weeks, and I've avoided going to movies in the theatre because of the opportunity for "bad" previews.

Anyway ... for those of you who know Hitchcock's stuff, which ones are psychologically intense without being flat out "scary"? I watched "North by Northwest" when I was younger, don't remember much about it but I certainly wasn't traumatized. I enjoy "Rear Window." Not allowed (by my mum) to watch "The Birds" or "Psycho" ... guess I wouldn't be able to handle it. But what are the opinions on some of the other works? "Spellbound"? "Shadow of a Doubt"?

Very Happy

Strangers on a Train is brilliant.

Gosh, that's a shame. Psycho and The Birds are my favorite of all Hitchock's films.

Hm, not familiar with it. I may have to check that out.

I've never gotten why people put OT before threads in the social forum. It's for general discussion...EVERYTHING is off-topic.

I wouldn't quite say it is my favourite, but i add my voice to its brilliance. I think you should watch this one. It is pure psychology. Very intense without being scary, or violent.

I wouldn't be too concerned about being frightened by graphic images. Nearly all of his movies include very little gore...They're pretty much all just very psychological.

I understand that there's a support group for people who are obsessed with Hitchcock. It's a 39 step program. Smile
