Original vs New Broadway Cast Recording

Is it worth getting the Sam Mendes-directed 'New Broadway cast recording' (from 1998)? Or the original?
The 1998 one was the version I actually *saw*, that made me love this show. But I'm familiar with the original Broadway CD too, and it's pretty darn good. What do people think? Which is better?
(Let's assume for simplicity's sake that these are the only two options.)

I totally love the OBC of Cabaret. I love the Telephone Song and Meeskite, which are on the original and not in the 1998 version.

That said, Mein Herr and Maybe This Time are worth the price of the new CD alone, IMO. I also love the rewrite of The Money Song.

I actually own 5 different recordings of Cabaret, because I couldn't decide. But if you can only buy one, by the one from the version you know and love, which sounds like the 1998 one.

Both are wonderful.

I personally prefer the OBC a bit more over the revival...largely because of Joel Grey, Lotte Lenya, and Jack Gilford.

The OBC...

Purely because of Joel Grey.

Bothy are essential. the great Lotte Lenya, the marvoulous Jack Gilford and of course Joel grwey in his star making role make the OBC a nessesity.Plus it has Why SHould I Wake Up. which was cut in subsequent versions.
the revival is needed becuase of Natasha Richardson's definitive Sally. the first actress to really nail the role on the american stage.

also it has the added Mein Heir and I Dont Care Much.not to mention some great support from Cumming,Rifkin and Wilson.

By the way, does anybody know if the face on the cover is Alan Cumming, or Joel Grey, or what? It doesn't look like Alan to me.

Heres something interesting, the 1970 Vienna cast recording of Cabaret is available for download on iTunes

Ah good, now I've a motivation to buy myself an iPod.

Both, because they're SO different!

OBC:
Joel Grey- yeah, he's pretty cool Smile wouldn't be the same without his Wilkommen
Lotte Lenya- I swear, she is the ONLY Frau Schneider. Then again, i'm biased for her purely because of her amazing voice
Why Wake Up?- I like this song! Why did they have to get rid of it? (if it's on the revival, i'm sorry, i don't have all of it, just part of it)

Revival:
Alan Cumming- hahaha, he's funny Smile he's also a lot DARKER than JG was, which I like. His version of "Money" doesn't make me skip the song altogether (ya, i know that JG did it in the movie... i didn't like that one. At all.)
Money- it's worth two bullets Wink Honestly, I don't understand why they didn't write this faster so it'd be in the original xD
Kit Kat Girls- They are a lot less uptight and proper-sounding. They actually sound like women who are talking and just so happen to be singing at the same time, which I like in a musical. sounds less fake.

Ya... they're two completely different interpretations imo, one is more coarse and BLATANT about it, whereas the original brings with it the genuine sound of Germany (yes, I love lotte lenya ^__^)
