Oppostite Sex Overkill?

In the last two productions at my school, I have been cast in male roles due to lack of testosterone in the performing arts. I actually enjoyed my "man-roles" and they were huge parts that my director was able to change into quasi-female roles. I am now, for a third time, cast as a legit manly-man (we can't change it into a female) and am a little hesitant about accepting the part...I would really like to return to my girly, feminine roles! Very Happy

Do you think that colleges will think it negative or odd that I have been cast three times in a row as the same angry, intense man? Maybe I'm being overdramatic, but the huge commitment of taking on this big role when it could count against me or be totally overlooked by schools seems pretty un-appealing.

I'm desperate for any advice or opinions you may have!

I don't think the colleges are going to deny you admission just because you've played a few drag roles. They might find it a bit odd, but if you do a kick-butt audition, that'll be what counts. One thing you want to watch out for is wrecking your voice by going too low (if you sing a male part). My best friend has a four-octave range, but permanently effed her voice by singing (I kid you not) the bass part in all the MFL cockney songs, because none of the boys could hit Harry's notes. Possibly don't let anyone know you can hit notes in a male range, and they will be forced to cast you in female roles.
Vice

I see no reason that it should effect your choicing in casting. It shows that you have a wide range in acting. I myself am often chosen for male turned female roles. *points at sig*
