If anyone is interested... I can find out what nights not to come (i.e. nights my understudy goes up).
The advert has a terrible seam in the middle from when I pieced it together in photoshop... I had to scan the poster in two parts and piece it together.

I know! Isn't it fantastic!?
The same guy that makes our beautiful sets (one of our art teachers) also does our publicity... I love it so much.

Is it a guarantee that she will? I hate that. For some odd unknown reason, the director of our spring musical never picks understudies... I think she assumes we'd rather die than miss one of HER shows!

It's basically guaranteed.
If she's prepared (knows all the lines and songs, not necessarily good at the part), she can get a show.
I'm really kinda upset, because my understudy wants to take the 1ST Saturday of our run, because it's the only time her Grandma can come to the show. And the 1st Saturday is usually one of our bigger shows.

My school usually does the understudy show on the second to last show. My community theatre, when we do shows that run for three or more weeks, will do it on the last matinee.

Oooh, bummer. That puts you in a crappy situation because of course you want to complain, but if you did it would make you look like you're antagonizing Grandma. But you'd think the director would want to put his or her first choice on stage for the bigger nights... Especially the first weekend! Because if your understudy isn't as good, people might leave the performance telling their friends "Oh, don't bother, Aggravain isn't any good." And then less people will come the next weekend!
Okay, maybe not, and I'm sure you've already thought of all of this in your head, but I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm with you. Why do directors feel the need to do this? Speaking as someone whose played both big and small roles (and understudies), I don't get it...
