If Once on This Island became a movie, who'd you cast in it? It's late so excuse me if any of these ideas seem absurd, but I'm, bored, so here are a few ideas I'm throwing out there:

Ti Moune: An unknown
Daniel: Taye Diggs
Asaka: Jennifer Hudson
Agwe: Wayne Brady
Erzulie: Anika Noni Rose
Papa Ge: Darius de Haas
Mama Euralie: Stephanie Mills
Tonton: Brian Stokes Mitchell
Andrea: Nikki M. James

Any thoughts? Feel free to post more ideas than this. I realize Taye is a bit old (but still not really), and most of all that none of these people have authentic accents, but oh well. Love to hear some more opinions. I had a few other actors in mind, especially girls, but this is what I came up with. Anyways.... thoughts?

Haha, I actually didn't even realize they were in that together. I mostly associate Mills with The Wiz, and de Haas with the video of "King of the World" that's on my video mp3. I mean, I'm obviously aware that they were in that show together, but believe me... I'm not a big enough fan of it to want to see them in this because of it. But yeah, great talents nonetheless.

As much as I love Norm, I think I would kind of die of happiness if Brian Stokes Mitchell sang "Rain."

Apparently Kenny Ortega is/was gonna make a OOTI movie with the High School Musical kids...like Vanessa Hudgens as Ti Moune, Lucas Grabeel as Daniel, Monique Coleman as Asaka, Corbin Bleu as Agwe, Ashley Tisdale as Erzulie, and Zac Efron as Papa Ge...Like no joke I think they're gonna...I dunno if the cast is right i can't remember

For the four gods, I'd like to see a trio of Dreamgirls alumni plus one:

ASAKA - Jennifer Hudson

ERZULIE - Beyonce Knowles

PAPA GE - Jamie Foxx

AGWE - Brian Stokes Mitchell


As much as I'd like to joke-cast Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashad as Julian and Euralie, that would be too painful. I'd use Norm Lewis as Julian. I'm stuck for a Euralie right now.

As for the minor roles ... maybe Tatyana Ali as Andrea? As for Armand ... I don't even know.

Much as I hate to admit it because I'd rather not see Once on this Island turned to the "get big stars to get big bucks" thing, Beyonce would work rather well as Erzulie, and I like Jamie Foxx as Papa Ge.

But in my opinion, stars like Jamie Foxx and Beyonce are just so over exposed right now, and besides, Darius de Haas can outsing Jamie Foxx like it's nothing. I agree with having some known talent light up the screen, but if a movie were to be made, let some lesser known brilliance be shared with the world, ya know?

P.S. Elijah Kelly is a brilliant choice for Daniel. Should have thought of it myself. But I still say Stephanie Mills would be the perfect Euralie.

I agree with you 100% about Darius deHaas being amazing.

However, if this were actually a movie ... producers like to have a few big names to draw money. So, hypothetically, Darius deHaas would make a potentially better choice (although I can really imagine Foxx acting Papa Ge really well). But if you're thinking practically, a few household names would be inevitable. Nikki James isn't one ... I don't think Elijah Kelly's there yet (he would make a fantastic Daniel, wouldn't he?) ... and Jennifer Hudson's in a similar position.
