Oliver audition helpFirst post. Woot.
Anyways, my school is doing Oliver for the spring musical this upcoming year (I really like being a club Officer, I know everything^^) and as we have, maybe, two boys who can properly carry a tune, our directors are opening Dodger up to a girl and I'm already planning to audition. Does anyone know of any good audition songs or monologues for it? I have a wide range (I can't think of what it is exactly right now, but I'm a mezzo and can reach a high A pretty easily) but I'm not too sure where to look. Any suggestions?

If you can find the songs for the show itself, the song "Who will buy" has a few good parts to it that would fit your voice range. "As long as he needs me," is another good one, but if you do it too well, then they may cast you as Nancy. Do you actually want a song from the show or something else. What do you like to sing?

If you can give me some idea of songs that you think could work or songs that you consider to be great in your voice, then we may be able to help you more...And I never give all-out answers, but I do like to point you in the right direction. I still like to make people work for it! LOL!

^^ Thanks guys. Sorry for the little info, I was trying to post quick before going to the movies. *insert falling over*
Our school has a strict unspoken 'no songs from the show until callbacks' rule. So a song from the show is out.
I was thinking of Little People from Les Mis. I know the show is a bit over done, but I'm really leaning towards that song right now. My main concern is the accent. I can do it fine, but is it... rude to do an accent for an audition? I've never had an audition for a character with an accent.

I tend to stay away from accents in initial auditions. If they want to hear an accent, they'll usually ask you on the spot or at callbacks.
I wouldn't consider it to be "rude" per se...just ill-advised.
They want to hear what you sound like when you're comfortable with a song/acting. A lot of times, the addition of an accent can overshadow your basic sound/acting.
I wouldn't do the accent...

oliver auditions helpI agree..don't do an accent until callbacks..unless a director specifically asks you to. For song choice.."Little People" would be good..if you know that it won't be used by tons of people at your school, and is not totally annying to the director (my musical director had a list of her own personal "overdone" songs , which she doesn't want to hear at auditions) Other choices might be a song from Peter Pan (the version with Mary Martin as Peter) like "I Won't Grow Up" or "I've Got a Crow". Hope that helps!
