OKLAHOMA HELP!!!

So I just found out recently that the production of Into the Woods I was involved in has been cancelled (very very upsetting) and the last chance I have to do a spring show around here is Oklahoma...everyone else has done their auditions already.

Anyway I need some help because I would love to do this show but I am having a problem figuring out who I should audition for... I have ALWAYS found the part of Ado Annie to be the most entertaining and fun and would love to play her, but I am wondering if realistically people would see me as more of a Laurey since I look more ingenueish and am a soprano (although I can sing mezzo aswell, and belt...).

I could audition for both since we are supposed to sing two contrasting songs...(any suggestions)?

Any help with this would be really appreciated.

The most perfect song for Ado Annie is "That'll show him" from Plain and Fancy. As a contrast for Laurey, I would do a nice sop ballad from 1940-1965 era - what do you have in your rep? Something R&H is always good or Rodgers and Hart...

In my R&H rep I really only have Sound of Music stuff and I don't know if that would be appropriate...or would it?

That'll Show Him from Plain and Fancy? Ill take a listen.

Hm...not sure about SOM really...what other classic MT sop ballads do you know?

The characters Laurey and Ado Annie are a LOT like Julie and Carrie from Carousel.

For Laurey - If I Loved You. For Ado - When I Marry Mister Snow.

Hrmmm..I have

A Little Bit in Love from Wonderful Town
So In Love from Kiss Me Kate
Hello Young Lovers from The King and I
If I Loved You from Carousel...

Bunch of other stuff in my folder upstairs are sop. ballads but either are not classical or are sondheim (which they specifically said no to)

Wow, crazy how you suggested Carousel and I have If I Loved You...though I have never used it before...

I think it's a really good choice if you intend on going for Laurey. Have you decided yet?

So i think I am pretty set on Laurey... though I will still audition for both and see what the directors think.

I'm still looking at uptempo's (for Ado...) any suggestions on that?

As for Laurey I am still looking at 'If I loved You' but It would mean having to learn another song in less than a week...so I'm wondering if I should stick with some thing that is already in my rep (since I really want Laurey I wanna make a good impression)

I have either "A Little Bit in Love" from Wonderful Town or "I've Never Been in Love Before' from GaD
JIJane

"I've never been in love before".

I was leaning more towards that one! Just needed some indication it would be a good choice. Thanks a bunch m'dear Smile

A good uptempo for Ado Annie would be "I Wish I Were in Love Again" from Babes in Arms. Great, GREAT song!!!

Thanks I think I'll look at that Smile
