Oh Dear, Another TV Show.

:-& Thoughts?
~GertrudeMcFuzz~

I personally hate the idea. TV chooses people that are camera-friendly and pretty but usually untalented for these shows, and I hate to think that such a great musical will have to suffer because of it. It's disrespectful to Laura Bell Bundy, the other actors, and the writers/producers/director to have the next Elle be a reality TV star. Gah.

The directors won't cast someone who has no talent.
If no talent shows up, someone will still be cast. If they suck, the director can pull them out anytime they want to. It's not a big deal.

Legally Blonde is commercial enough as it is. It's not like it's a great piece of theatre they're doing this to...Just fluff (Fluff that has already been broadcast on MTV, I might add).

True. I guess my initial reaction was a bit...impulsive? The more I think about it, it's not a huge deal. I trust Jerry Mitchell's judgement when it comes to who he casts...

Good point. It would be different if they did it to something like say, Sweeney Todd ( Shocked I don't want to think about that)
Snow_White

Yeah I agree...I love Legally Blonde and was pretty obsessed with the cast album when I first got it but I don't see anything wrong with casting the new Elle this way...

Talented people will audition for this, and they will find someone good, and if they don't they can always choose someone else, right?

Grease turned out okay, didn't I?
ilovebway

I'm actually not surprised that this is happening. They'll find someone good to fill Laura Bell Bundy's shoes, but this reality show just totally killed any sort of chance for Kerry Butler to be Elle. Mad I really liked the demo recording which she was in. Oh well, she still owns in Xanadu.

Wait, is this sarcasm?

I'd watch Legally Blonde on Broadway if Kerry Butler is the next Elle.

Seconded. I'm pretty much in love with her.
mastachen

She's one of 3 actresses I'd watch in anything.

The other two are Lea Salonga and Sutton Foster.
ilovebway

Agreed. I love all three of them.

Don't kill me, but I've never heard of Sutton Foster.

I looove Kerry Butler and Lea though. =]

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

You need to listen to at least one of the following cast recordings RIGHT NOW....

-Throughly Modern Millie (She's Millie)
-Little Women (She's Jo)
-The Drowsy Chaperone (She's Janet)
-Young Frankenstein (She 's Inga)

Then your life may possibly be complete.

OK, I'll look on Barnes and Nobles, beause sadly, no shops near me sell anything better than the Hairspray movie soundtrack.
Snow_White

Sutton Foster is unbe-effing-lievable..

Bah..I want to be her.

I dunno, it could be sarcasm- I never saw it. My friend did and she said it wasn't bad...but as for me, I'll reserve my judgement.
~GertrudeMcFuzz~

I would LOVE to see Kerry Butler as Elle, she's completely amazing. But I guess that won't happen now that they're casting it this way.
musikal_geek

I honestly think Grease turned out okay. The show as a whole wasn't very good, but that has nothing to do with how they cast the leads. I just didn't like Marshall's approach. Crumm & Osnes were up to par with the rest of the cast, I think.
musicaltheatrefan

Reality TV casting is just a fad. We've had Sound of Music in Toronto & London, Evita in the Netherlands, Joseph in the UK and the Netherlands, Grease in the US and UK, and now Legally Blonde. In 5 years people won't remember these shows. Don't worry if the girl that they choose for Elle isn't good, they can easily replace her.
SmallSpeckofDustOnAClover

I will probably watch the show. My mainstream-pop-music listening friends have their American Idol... this is my American Idol.

I heard Grease was bad because they attempted to 'candy it up' if you will, doing to the original dialogue what happened to "Sex in the City" when it moved to TBS.
